Pilots v Florida State
Let's get this thread going.
Next week's group is the Pilots v Florida State and Lousiville v Memphis, with the winners squaring off. Wow, that's dense.
I'd sure rather go to Memphis to see the Pilots' games than to Tallahassee!

Re: Pilots v Florida State
Oh My Gosh, the Memphis athletic department's media relations people are tweeting that, in fact, the games will be at Memphis and not at Florida State. Rumor is that FSU has a pointy ball game coming and can't handle both. Really, I'm not kidding.

Official it is! The NCAA's printable (not interactive) bracket gives Memphis an * as the home team for next weekend's games.

I guess I have to revise the weather info I gave in another post. Weather forcast for Memphis on Friday is sunny, high 61, low 44. Things to do in Memphis on Saturday between game days: Plenty of good BBQ, music on Beale St., Mud Island, and of course Sun Records and Graceland.

Just for fun, using Kayak, I looked up prices for flights from Portland to Memphis. Leaving on the 17th and returning on the 21st. The cheapest flight was $648. Yikes.

I know it's not Memphis and it would take some additional traveling. But I found tickets from Seattle to Nashville for $484 on Orbitz.

Re: Pilots v Florida State
The information about $428 fares on the Fare Compare page itself does not seem to be re-createable via the actual search engines. I ran a search on all the engines on the Fare Compare website and the cheapest fare it brought back was $567 on United.

Check out flights into Little Rock. It is only a 2 hour drive on I-40 to Memphis and usually a lot cheaper to fly into! Go Pilots.

Re: Pilots v Florida State
I was in Memphis, in the summer of '61. My girlfriend's family lived in Memphis and I was visiting her. Her mother was on the Memphis school board and was pro-integration, and to keep my girlfriend safe they had to send her to Philadelphia to school. She went home for the summer, and I drove from Philly to Memphis with her older sister (who worked for the American Friends Service Committee) for a visit. It was the days of "White Only" drinking fountains. I was under serious instructions from my girlfriend that, when we were out with her best friend and the best friend's boyfriend, that I should not say anything when he made racist comments. She made it clear that it would would be seriously dangerous to speak up and I should not think the South was like the area I had grown up in.
It was an "interesting time."

Unfortunately that is still true in some(lots) parts of the south. Bigotry and racism have been around(not just "the south") since humans first walked. Thinkers progress the world forward, the rest go backwards.
Geez....If you cant stand the heat(South ref.... ) then get out of the kitchen. This weekend its a clean slate

61° high in Memphis. Should be around 45° at game time. Pilot weather.
with any luck, it will drizzle.
I expect your Florida girls to be wearing sissy gloves and scarves.
nobody EVER beats the Pilots wearing gloves.

Re: Pilots v Florida State
FSUFan, welcome back!
After last year, is there a little irony in the fact that FSU didn't bid to host these games?

Re: Pilots v Florida State
I was looking at Dee's blog and the editor noted that there will be free video for the game.

Live video is now listed. Can anyone tell me for sure if the 3:00 start time listed on the UP web site is West Coast time, or Memphis time?
