(Women's) Tennis, Anyone?
After watching the Women’s Tennis Team attempt to toss the T-shirts to the 10th row at Thursday night’s game against LMU, I decided watch them use their rackets against Montana on Friday at UP. I think we lost 4-3, but I enjoyed the matches I watched. I say I “think” we lost, because we swept the doubles 3-0, but I’m not sure that counts in the final score after we lost 4 singles matches.
You should come out and watch the ladies; I thought two in particular were especially worth the afternoon commute home:
Freshman Anastasia Polyakova from Saint-Petersberg, Russia, and junior Sabin Fuchs from La Center, WA. I was hoping to see our young freshman from St. Mary’s Academy, who UPSoccerFanatic might know something about, but apparently she didn’t play.
Oh, and the admission was FREE!

Re: (Women's) Tennis, Anyone?
Concluding the first leg of an eight match stretch of road matches, the Portland Pilots women’s tennis team posted a 4-3 victory over the Cal State Fullerton Titans before falling to Cal State Northridge, 5-2, earlier this week.
Portland’s record stands at 4-6 as the team prepares for the start of West Coast Conference play next weekend
From the Who Knew? file: Who knew that women’s tennis could be so contentious?
During the end of the second doubles match, an argument ensued between the two Fullerton players and our two Aussies, Valeska Hoath and Alice Tucker. It was apparently over a scoring discrepancy; Fullerton thought they had won the match, but the UP ladies didn’t think it was over yet.
And in the number one singles match, where there were a number of close out-of-bounds calls, a Fullerton player exclaimed in her best McEnroe voice, “Are you serious?” To which Sabine Fuchs replied sarcastically, “No, I’m joking.”
Alright ladies, “let’s get ready to rumble.”

Re: (Women's) Tennis, Anyone?
So, while all eyes were focused on Southern California last weekend, our women’s tennis team was getting in their first action of the year…..or was it the continuation of action from LAST year? In any case, the women’s tennis team does not play on UP’s campus again until JANUARY 27, 2013, and the men’s team returns FEBRUARY 1, 2013…….so I don’t think there’s any pressing need to start a new tennis thread for awhile.

From UP Sports:
The University of Portland women’s tennis team opened their 2012 fall campaign last weekend at the Cougar Classic hosted by Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. The young Pilots team posted a 14-13 record throughout their singles matches over the weekend.

I'm glad YOU can read the final results or figure out the brackets....or did you have "insider" information?UPSoccerFanatic wrote:And my favorite Pilot tennis player was 2-1 in singles.
I'm guessing UP has just been lazy with the roster on the website, because it still shows her to be a freshman; and not a redshirt freshman.

Re: (Women's) Tennis, Anyone?
Yeah, tennis doesn't get the same level of attention as soccer. On the other hand, she started in January rather than in the Fall, so maybe she still counts as a frosh. FYI, her dad also went to UP and played tennis.
