WCC Tourney: Portland vs. SCU, Weds., 2/29, 6pm
The Pilots look for win #3 over the Broncos in Vegas.
SCU, despite being 0-16 in conf. play, have played well in most games, including a 3-point loss @LMU on Saturday. Kevin Foster is still out, but this will not be an easy game.
My main question is, will both teams "show up" and play like they want to be there? Or, will one of the teams phone it in?
Last year, I felt like the Pilots didnt show up vs. LMU, and we lost... I hope we dont suffer the same fate this year.

I am so pleased that all the WCC fans who are government workers will be able to watch the game online on the people's dime instead of sneaking out to a bar or brothel to watch it on BYUTV like most employees

Wait a minute! The game is at 6:00 PM. What government employee is still at work at 6:00?

So, how many of us will be there in person to watch the game? I get into Vegas at 3:30, so I don't have a ton of time for Pregame festivities.
Hopefully Nut will be in Brenden's before the game so I can collect my bucket of beer prize from last year's Bracket Challenge. That's right, I didn't forget

Ditto... but I may be able to get away from work late morning and try standby.
BS: Your blowout victory in the 2011 Bracket Pool has not been forgotten; I will gladly make good on the prize. I would be even more glad (glad-er?) if there is a beer kickback out of said bucket...

While these will be the best tasting Bud Lights ever, it's still Bud Light. You and any other Pilot fans in the vicinity can share.

Woodless! Come in Woodless!
Is there a Wednesday pregame affair at the Orleans?
There may be some late arrivals in Las Vegas, so I might suggest a post-game beer-fest instead. Much better to have five or six attend instead of three or four!

Alumni Office events are listed in a seperate thread here.
I really wish the hospitality suite was at The Orleans.
Looks like the Hospitality Suite at the Bellagio is the designated after-game location.... unless you want to establish an official PN after-party location for the weekend...?

I'm not going to rant here (or anywhere), but if we had a webcam you could see me shaking my head at the idea of the Bellagio being the designated hospitality suite when the Orleans is the "Designated WCC Hotel."PilotNut wrote:I really wish the hospitality suite was at The Orleans.

Unfortunately, event spaces at the Orleans are few and far between. All of the executive hospitality suites are reserved by the WCC and we can't reserve Brendan's or any other space on the main floor of the hotel. Nearly all of the other schools have moved some of their alumni receptions off-site. Seriously, you guys need to stop by and keep me company at some point.

What is the WCC? Would it be the WCC without the nine schools? Shouldn't the nine schools be allowed to use the WCC suites?Woodless! wrote:All of the executive hospitality suites are reserved by the WCC .............
If we are to drive off-site to "party," shouldn't BYU provide designated drivers?

Saw on the scrolling bottom line a list of noteworthy games (or whatever term they used) tomorrow, and much to my surprise, UP vs SCU was not listed. I'm sure it was only because there are three top 12 match ups.

The good thing about a tourney is that everyone has a clean slate, but, being honestly I just don´t our chances at all this year. All the same, I keep hoping that the potential of this team comes together and I definitely won´t give up on them...

Re: WCC Tourney: Portland vs. SCU, Weds., 2/29, 6pm
Nick Daschel has a good story on O-Live, with some thoughts from Rev:
LINK
"I'd just like to play well, play good basketball," Reveno said. "Maybe winning a game or two, getting over the hump and winning a game late. We've played some teams close, but haven't got one of those."
"We were never able to solve the turnover issue. That's something that made us a lot more unstable," Reveno said.
"Say you finish fifth in league, and won some close games. We might not have, internally, players with the sense of urgency that we have now," Reveno said. "It was a disappointing season. It's not acceptable."

Well, you make a very good point, wizz. I guess I recall the many, many nights (64 nights one year) that I spent in Las Vegas while on "temporary" duty at Nellis AFB -- it was a long drive to base and a tricky slalom through the gate I can tell you.mattywizz wrote:DD, who drives in Vegas?
With modern technology, I now have my walking map of Vegas on my pocket-fitting tablet; so I'm set!
But still, if I see someone in a white shirt, black tie, and name tag, I'm asking for a ride!

Re: WCC Tourney: Portland vs. SCU, Weds., 2/29, 6pm
Pilots win! 74 - 70. SCU's only turnover of the game came with seconds to go, and playing to tie or take the lead. Phew!
Early morning flight, but I get to see another game! #didn'tchangemyflight
Coach got his wish, winning a game late. I kinda wish they hadn't given up a 13 point lead to do it, but all credit to the team for keeping calm, getting the lead back, and finishing down the stretch."I'd just like to play well, play good basketball," Reveno said. "Maybe winning a game or two, getting over the hump and winning a game late. We've played some teams close, but haven't got one of those."

Re: WCC Tourney: Portland vs. SCU, Weds., 2/29, 6pm
I'll take the win, but I was getting frustrated by Ryan's lack of touches on some critical possessions late in the game. Pretty much every time he got the ball, good things happened - either scoring or drawing the defense to create opportunities for someone else. On that possession when Timmy got called for a charge, all Ryan was doing was setting screens on the perimeter. Not good.
All that said, a win is a win is a win.
All that said, a win is a win is a win.
