Heading to China

Portland seniors ReZina TecleMariam and Natalie Day will miss their graduation ceremonies next month as both will be playing basketball in China. They have been selected to play on a United States all-star basketball team that will tour China April 25-May 9. The team, sponsored by the United States Basketball Academy, will play nine games against teams from China, Australia and New Zealand. The squad will play in three different cities and provinces.

Congratulations ladies; represent us well (and do a little recruiting if you can)!

USA Runs Past New Zealand

After struggling to get going throughout much of the first half, Team USA went into the break up by only a point. The second half, however, was an entirely different story. The Americans picked up their defensive pressure and cleaned the backboards en route to a 44-14 second half and a 73-42 victory.

It appears a fun loving group of players are having a fun time in China, and our Pilots are representing us just fine!

We played a great game beating the home Chinese National B team 65-55 despite the Chinese team shooting 29 free throws to our 7, and 25 fouls being called on Team USA to 8 on China. It’s great to get a win like that, in a hostile home environment.

The ladies will write more later, but for now they are rushing to the airport in Bejing for an early flight home!
