LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Portland redshirt junior Jared Bassett will be competing in the steeplechase, while 2006 UP alum Kristen Rohde will run in the 5,000m at the USATF High Performance meet at Occidental college on Friday.

Bassett will be looking to chase the U.S. Olympic Trials standard of 8:32.00. His PR of 8:47.09 was set earlier this month at the Oregon Twilight and ranks fourth in UP history. The men’s steeplechase is scheduled for 6:50 p.m.

Rohde, who now runs for Nike’s Bowerman Athletic Club, will compete in the elite section of the women's 5,000m and will be chasing the U.S. Olympic Trials standard of 15:35.00. The women’s 5,000m run is scheduled for 9:20 p.m.

USATF High Performance Meet - Today Empty Bassett posts PR & Olympic B Qual time….

Post by DoubleDipper Mon May 21, 2012 10:34 am

From UP Athletics:
Redshirt junior Jared Bassett posted a U.S. Olympic Trials B qualifier time of 8:38.87 in the 3,000m steeplechase on Friday night at the USATF High Performance meet at Occidental College. Bassett took nine seconds off of his PR time which now stands as the third fastest in school history and the seventh best in the NCAA this season.

“Spectacular,” Portland head coach Rob Conner said. “The goal was an Olympic Trials qualifier and that time puts him squarely on the bubble. When we get home we will make some small adjustments to his training with a focus on placing at the NCAA Championships in three weeks.”

The Olympic Trials A standard time is 8:32, while the B standard is 8:45.
