What do you do for fun?
Of all things I do, fishing out in the ocean has to be my favorite. A couple of you have even ventured out with us. My family has been launching dories off the beach at Cannon Beach for longer than I've been around.
I thought you guys might enjoy a little video of R54 launching our dory (This is his first YouTube moment). There were some pretty good sized waves he handled like a pro. (The video was shot by a complete stranger, so please pay no attention to the commentary)

It's really not about the fish though. It's about the tsunami debris, friendly banter (among friends), unfriendly banter (among family), cold brews back on shore, and of course sweet hats.

Ha, on my last trip, I found a rip line with all kinds of debris in it. I trolled slowly along that line for 10-20 minutes looking for something cool. Never found anything worth bringing home. It was clear from some of the markings, that at least most of the stuff was from Japan. I thought we found a glass float, but it turned out to be a 500W light bulb with Japanese writing.

Crazy people on PN; some chance falling off mountains, some look to be swallowed by the sea; others are endangered by neighborhood fireworks.
Can't wait until basketball season when we can just sit back with a beer (before and after the game only!) while watching others take all the risks until we hit Las Vegas, when it’s just plain dangerous for everyone!

Fantastic insights!
There's no better way to experience the the risches and beauty of the oregon ocean than from a dory.....just need the know-how to get through those pesky breakers!!

You just like doing it so you can sneak your landlubber friends on board and laugh at them while they add extra "bait" into the water....

That looked like a good day to turn around and go back to the brews. I hear swimming home is no fun.

Oh, I don't know, it would appear to be a lot more fun than snorkeling a dory into the surf.up7587 wrote:That looked like a good day to turn around and go back to the brews. I hear swimming home is no fun.

I mounted my GoPro to the dory so you can get a better feel for the launch. The guy who can't seem to stay standing is a fellow PNer.
PS: The salmon I just took out of the smoker tastes so good with some local cheese and craft brew!

I've found those GoPro's are unable to defy gravity, but they are pretty indestructible and are apparently pretty tasty (to pigs) too.blacksheep wrote:I mounted my GoPro to the dory so you can get a better feel for the launch. The guy who can't seem to stay standing is a fellow PNer.

Re: What do you do for fun?
GoPro cameras are pretty impressive. My next plan is to record me making the same trip through the surf in my kayak.
I also have some coaching video of Woodless!'s bowling form. I'm hoping to get him to improve another 10 pins on his average this year.

What do I do for fun?
Well, this summer I went down to the Siierra and split my knee wide open in a rock climbing fall at 11K feet and had to finish the climb, walk out four miles, drive myself 40 miles to a hospital in Mammoth and get surgery that night.
Doesn't get funner than that!

Was this before or after you played in the World Cup...? #worldssexiest(old)manGeezaldinho wrote:What do I do for fun?
