2012-2013 WCC Schedule Released
First 3 games on the road, and then we open the home conference slate with the Zags again. Good news in that we should have the students in session for all home games.

Students will be back. According to the academic calendar, they should all return on the 14th of January.
For the first time in a while our guys will play at Gonzaga with their students around.

Re: 2012-2013 WCC Schedule Released
Thanks, DoubleDipper. I was hoping someone would compile this. Looks like an excellent non-conference schedule. There are three marquee, top-25 caliber opponents (@New Mexico, @UK, UNLV at home!) plus a couple of other very tough challenges on the road (@Ohio, @WSU).
Also, the spot in the holiday tournament in Vegas with a couple more tough opponents is a real scheduling coup.
But in addition to all of this, and unlike last year, there are some winnable games interspersed: Idaho St, @Montana St., PSU, Bakersfield, North Florida, Texas Pan-American.
Counting only the D-1 games, there are 6 at home, 5 on the road, and 2 at the neutral site tourney. That is a great balance, especially compared with last year (3 home, 7 road, 2 neutral site). Well done, coaching staff!

Portland Bible? That's below D-III in my opinion. No offense meant to them.

Portland Bible College
Well, with a student enrollment of less than 250 students, they play a pretty good brand of ball.RipCityPilot wrote:Portland Bible? That's below D-III in my opinion. No offense meant to them.
"No offense," and "below D-III," hmmm, seems kind of harsh, but I hope the PBC players get as excited about playing UP as our players look forward to playing UK in Lexington.

Re: 2012-2013 WCC Schedule Released
Isn't it funny how after "no offense" always comes something offensive. What I meant is that they are officially at the NCCAA Division II level.
I would be fine with playing PBC if we weren't also playing L&C. KnowwhatImean?

Yea, I do. But one of the things Rev admitted last year was playing a schedule that did not allow the players to "gain any confidence" along with the brutal experience they were getting.RipCityPilot wrote:Isn't it funny how after "no offense" always comes something offensive. This schedule is going to be very tough, but at least there will be an opportunity or two to a take a deep breath during the preseason. Not so much during WCC play, however. Almost every team in the league will show some improvement, including our cellar-dweller mates SCU who some expect to finish as high as 5th or 6th this year. GU, SMC, BYU, LMU........then what?
I know the players coming back from last year have a bitter taste they are working very hard to expunge during their offseason workouts and preparation for 2012-13.

Re: 2012-2013 WCC Schedule Released
The biggest factor in scheduling Portland Bible on Friday 12/14 is it's the last day of a week of final exams. Tough to always get the full team together for disciplined practices during exam week, and they'll need the Friday "scrimmage" before taking on Cal State Bakersfield on Monday.RipCityPilot wrote:Portland Bible?

Re: 2012-2013 WCC Schedule Released
Portland Bible was winless against all NAIA and NCAA teams last year...and judging by the fact that they stopped updating their schedule page with results midway through the year I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they didn't turn it on at the end, either.
Largest margin of victory in Pilots history was a 100-47 win over Hawaii back in '93 - I'm gonna go ahead and say that one's gonna fall on Dec 14.

Re: 2012-2013 WCC Schedule Released
Possibly, but that's just not Rev's style. Why punish a bunch of kids from a 250 student school for coming out to North Portland and "scrimmaging" with his guys. Hopefully, he'll use the time to teach........something he's very good at!DeanMurdoch wrote:Largest margin of victory in Pilots history was a 100-47 win over Hawaii back in '93 - I'm gonna go ahead and say that one's gonna fall on Dec 14.
