World Cup 2014
Ay, Caramba!
This image posted on the FIFA website today shows the mascot of the 2014 World Cup. The mascot is a yet to-be-named Brazilian endangered armadillo. FIFA said Brazilians will have until mid-November to choose the mascot's name from three choices - Amijubi, Fuleco and Zuzeco.

Re: World Cup 2014
Yikes. What is with the mascot designers? See the Olympics mascots below. Why even have a mascot for an event like the Olympics or World Cup? It's not like those events need to create an identity.

I guess you have them because you've always had them? And to sell simple t shirts with a logo to parents at $30 a pop... Making money seems the only reason why you would, otherwise I agree theyare completely superfluous.

Side note: how is it that Mexico has hosted twice and England/Spain only once?? On second thought, I really don't want to know....

That England wasn't in FIFA until 1948 and Spain was a fascist dictatorship might have had something to do with it....

Re: World Cup 2014
Oh... that.... But there were only 3 cups before England became a member anyway.
Its just kinda funny that the 2 countries with the biggest leagues in the world have only hosted once. (Especially with Mexico only hosting only 16 years apart...) And they are having it hosted in countries that have to build completely new stadiums and/or create devices that make artificial clouds to make the playing surface less deadly.... Sigh.

Re: World Cup 2014
I'm a bit more amazed that there are four nations in the UK which have equal status wih England in both FIFA and IFAB and nobody talks about when the WC will be held in Northern Ireland.

Well, hosting is about the only way any lads from Belfast are going to play in the World Cup... (Unless of course they naturalize somewhere else...)
