Re: LMU Notes
Apparently it was getting a little too crowded at point guard for Simon Krajcovic from Slovakia, as it was announced today that he'll be transferring.
Without Krajcovic, LMU lists six point guards on the roster including three walk-ons and two who recently gave verbal commitments.
Krajcovic's departure brings to four the number of players who have transferred from LMU since the end of the season....two who would have been juniors and two who would have sophomores.

Re: LMU Notes
According to this article from West Coast Convo: http://westcoastconvo.com/2015/04/27/lions-get-four-new-commits/
LMU has four very good recruits coming in next year....including one outstanding PG, Brandon Brown, who did not serve a two year mission, but instead served a two year prison sentence.
Not included in the article is a fifth student-athlete who signed today, Adom Jacko, a 6-8 PF out of Chaffey College.

More movement at LMU.....this time 6-7/245 forward Sherman Vernon has decided to transfer to NAIA Biola University.
Sherman is a bright kid who was at the Air Force Academy a couple of years before transferring to LMU for his redshirt year.
He'll be a junior Biola.

Re: LMU Notes
The exodus continues.....
Former walk-ons Casey Norris and Connor Jean have left the team. Neither of the two played a minute last year, and both are seniors this coming fall, so one has to assume graduating became more important than being a "practice player."
Of the 17 players listed on LMU's roster at the end of the 2014-15 season, only seven remain.
LMU has two incoming freshmen and four incoming JC transfers who will be juniors = 13 on scholarship.

Re: LMU Notes
Adom Jacko, LMU's top scorer and rebounder (he scored 35 against UP in LA in February) has decided to forego his senior year to play professionally.
Unfortunately for LMU, the big-time four-star transfer from Oregon who was expected to replace Jacko in 2017, Trevor Manuel, will have to redshirt this coming season.

Here is a MMM article on LMU, arguing that Max Good should not have been fired.
https://www.midmajormadness.com/2018/8/6/loyola-marymount-lions-wcc-hoops-max-good
The premise is that he had some good players who ended up transferring, and he had a couple good recruits coming. Not sure that means he would have been able to coach them to winning seasons, and that they all would have stayed.

Have you noticed how many offers and commitments LMU's new coach is creating?
And he's had a pretty good couple of days bringing back center Mattias Markusson off the transfer portal, and now getting a commitment from Stanford 4-star forward Kodye Pugh, a grad transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.

Quintana had a very vocal group of what I assume were family members cheering him on in Las Vegas. Since he's from West Covina, went to high school in La Verne, and Cal Baptist is only 40 miles away in Riverside, I am guessing that was a factor.

Re: LMU Notes
Sorry to see LMU's wonderful freshman guard, Chance Stephens, in the portal.
He played in 28 of 31 games, including four starts as a true freshman… Scored 167 points and averaged 6.0 points per game… Third on the team with 49 made threes and fourth on the team at 37.4 percent shooting from deep…
Stephens hit a team-high seven three-pointers and season-high 23 points in LMU’s Jamaica Classic Championship game win over Wake Forest in November, leading to his being named Tournament MVP and WCC Freshman of the Week honors…
Stephen's move may have been motivated by First Team All-MEAC point guard, Justin Wright's commitment to LMU after transferring from North Carolina Central.

I guess it's a sign of the times, but LMU will discontinue six sports at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
Sports targeted for cuts are men’s cross-country, men’s rowing, men’s track and field,
women’s rowing, women’s swimming, and women’s track and field...

Just sharing some (I believe) well-informed perspective on this from Matt Brown of Extra Points
1. "That is not why LMU cut any of these programs (in response to the LA Times article: Loyola Marymount to cut 6 sports in response to NIL rules. These are the teams affected)"
2. "Think we'll see more mid/low major schools drop some Olympic sports over next 2 years not bc of NIL, or even to save sport-specific $, but bc they were overbuilt and cant allocate the admin, health and student services to properly support a larger department."
3. "hypothetically, dropping a rowing team might only save you like, 90K. Could even be a loss with tuition $. But if cutting means you also change trainer workload, SID, academic support, and if rowing isnt in your conference long term plans...the calculus can change. Make sense?"

Re: LMU Notes
For those paying attention to the changing D1 college landscape, note that today an NLRB judge/hearings officer/ regional director(?)
ruled that members of the Dartmouth men's basketball team were employees and entitled to unionize. There is similar litigation pending regarding several USC teams. If the ruling holds on appeal, the affect will likely be devastating to mid-majors and possibly even larger institutions.
