The Rice is Fried....and the pan's still hot....
Mike Rice received only a 3 game suspension from the Rutgers’ AD for his incredibly stupid method of “teaching.” Now, with a video of some of his actions being shown over and over, he and his AD are on the hot seat. If Governor Christie has anything to say about it…..they’ll be gone, I understand.
If you haven't seen the video of Rice basically playing dodge-ball with his players and shouting homophobic remarks, here it is. CRAZY:

I know of a case where a Coach grabbed a Lacrosse stick out of a guys hands and hit the player with it at a game.
A spectator called the president.
Coach was gone before next practice.

Good. Now hopefully they have the sense to make things right with E. Murdock, who was a class act during his years with the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Agreed! Erick Murdock appears to be a solid guy who stood up for the student-athletes.....but what a tough situation to be in.DeanMurdoch wrote:Good. Now hopefully they have the sense to make things right with E. Murdock, who was a class act during his years with the Vancouver Grizzlies.
BTW, all Pilots practices are OPEN. At those practices you will often see a great deal of intensity, but never insanity......I think you'll be impressed with all the coaches, but especially Coach Jackson's leadership and knowledge of the game.

Re: The Rice is Fried....and the pan's still hot....
Face it, Rutgers didn't fire Rice, the public did. Rutgers knew about video and didn't fire him....will the AD have to go too?
Some say the AD’s work to get Rutgers into the Big10 will save him....we’ll see.
Rice is quoted as saying, “My biggest regret is I embarrassed my family.”
Really, that’s your biggest regret?

Don't heap too much praise on Murdock. He never would of made the video public if Rutgers had paid him.

Rutgers assistant coach Jimmy Martelli has resigned, and his name has already been also removed from school's web site.

Re: The Rice is Fried....and the pan's still hot....
Moral outrage over the Mike Rice’s outrageous behavior may be one thing, but now there’s a financial angle and thing are heating up even more.....
Turns out if Rice had been fired by the Rutgers’ AD in December, or any time before the end of the season, the university would not have had to shell-out the $100,000 bonus he’ll receive for “finishing the season.”
Yea, I think the AD will be gone before long....

I wonder if the Big-10 is questioning their admission of the Scarlet Knights. Doesn't seem like this fits in with the staid and dignified image the the Leaders and Legends.
Oh, wait, uh, Penn State and . . . never mind.

Finally, some campus activism similar to what Geez and I saw in a (much) earlier era…..
From ESPN….
From ESPN….
The Full Story....The teachers are doing the schooling at Rutgers, and that is the way it is supposed to be. Dozens have rightfully called for the firings of the athletic director, Tim Pernetti, and the president, Robert Barchi, proving there is an actual heartbeat among faculty members often bulldozed by the sports machine raging about America's campuses.
More than 50 professors have signed a letter seeking Pernetti's ouster, and some 28 have reportedly called for Barchi's removal, too. They know what every right-minded observer of this depressing Mike Rice case knows:
The president and athletic director lost the moral authority to lead the moment they decided last year that Rice's repeated physical and verbal abuse of student-athletes, packaged with homophobic and misogynistic slurs, did not constitute immediate grounds for dismissal.
"Both Pernetti and Barchi should be shipped off campus as soon as possible," said William C. Dowling, university distinguished professor of English and American literature at Rutgers, "and their last paychecks should be sent after them."

First Mike Rice, then assistant Jimmy Martelli, then Pac-12 coordinator Ed Rush, and finally Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti….all GONE! Let’s get back to focusing on the Final Four and BASKETBALL!

Did Murdock own the tapes, or did he appropriate University property to blow the whistle on Rice?

It's digital media. Nothing really to steal. No copyright notices were seen.

Re: The Rice is Fried....and the pan's still hot....
From ESPN:
Rutgers hires Julie Hermann as AD
Rutgers has hired Louisville senior associate athletic director Julie Hermann as its new athletic director, sources said Wednesday.
Hermann will replace former athletic director Tim Pernetti, who resigned following the firing of men's basketball coach Mike Rice.
"I'm very excited for her to have this opportunity," Louisville AD Tom Jurich told ESPN at the ACC spring meetings in Amelia Island, Fla. "Rutgers has a real gem. Julie is someone I've relied on in the past 15 years and she's never let me down. I truly believe Rutgers has a bright future with Julie at the helm."
Hermann, 49, will become only the third female AD at a BCS school joining NC State's Debbie Yow and Cal's Sandy Barbour.

Re: The Rice is Fried....and the pan's still hot....
I don’t know if Mike Rice will ever return as a D-1 head coach, but it has to be a positive sign for both he and his family that he’s attending John Lucas’ Wellness and Aftercare Program in Houston where he is receiving counseling for anger management…..there is no apparent timetable set for his stay there.
Lucas is a former NBA standout whose career was derailed by substance abuse issues. His facility, which opened more than two decades ago, helps athletes and coaches conquer a variety of problems, including issues with drugs and alcohol, addictions to food and sex, weight and work ethic issues along with anger management.

Is it limited to athletes and coaches?
Just asking hypothetically, of course.

From NJ.comDoubleDipper wrote:From ESPN:Rutgers hires Julie Hermann as AD
http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2013/05/julie_hermann_should_never_hav.htmlSo the woman hired to clean up the mess after an abusive coach was herself, an abusive coach.
Congratulations, Rutgers. You really have outdone yourself this time.
Julie Hermann should never have been hired as athletic director. If the allegations from her former players are true – and there are too many of those players for them to be dismissed – then, in the mid-1990s, Hermann was not much different than the man who made Rutgers the worst kind of punch line.
She was not much different than Mike Rice, terrorizing her players with “mental cruelty” and labeling them “whores, alcoholics and learning disabled,” according to a letter from members of the 1996 team.
The charges are chilling, and all these years later, the women on those teams have nothing to gain from lying. They said Hermann ridiculed them over their weight, pulled them from games and made them do 100 pushups on the sideline and denied them showers or meals after losses.
“We have been lied to, publicly humiliated, and ripped apart as both players and people,” the two-page letter obtained by The Star-Ledger reads.
And now, Rutgers figures to be publicly humiliated again, and its community ripped further apart.
