2014 Reign Empty 2014 Reign

Post by Geezaldinho Thu Feb 06, 2014 10:40 am

Since there are so many Pilots there, I figure a thread is warranted.

The Seattle School board approved allowing the Reign to play in Seattle memorial stadium! right next to the Space needle and to allow some upgrades to a locker room for the team and to allow the team to contract their own concessions.

Looks like a bigger venue than star fire, and in the heart of downtown.

Announcement at 2:00 today.

Well, the seats are all wood bleachers, amenities are from the 50's. The press box probably should be condemned...

But it has a new Turf field ( the football grid will be painted over) and it is in a great part of town.

So yeah, it will be an upgrade.

So it is like Hayward Field without the big scoreboard - and all the O's.

Not quite as many seats as Hayward, but the environment is the same. I think the Reign will be happy with it and the opponents should feel comfortable playing there too.

If they open both grandstands, Memorial is bigger

Hayward is listed at 10,500 expandable to 21,000

Memorial Stadium is 6,000 in each grandstand, and when the Sounders played, it was expanded with end zone seating to 27,000

The NWSL schedule is out. The Reign open their first three games at home in April

The Thorns have one game at home that month and don't play home until the third game of the season.

First game between the two teams is May 10 in Portland.

My bad. Memorial was actually expanded to 17K, though it looks like they could have had more.

But without temporary seating in either venue, Memorial is a little bigger.

The Reign schedule is here: LINK

The Reign is at UP on Saturday March 29 @ 2 PM, and at Jeld-Wen on Saturday May 10 @ 7 PM and on Sunday August 15 at 5 PM in the regular season finale.

The Thorns will be in Seattle’s Memorial Stadium on Sunday July 27 @ 4 PM…..a good time of day for the round-trip drive.  Very Happy

There an absolute must hear interview with Amanda Frisbie here: http://www.availablesubstitutes.com/episodes/2014/2/17/episode-01-amanda-frisbie

She talks about growing up playing soccer, her family, her decision to come to Portland, the switch to defender, all very candid. It's about an hour and it's all worth it (well, if you're not into current music you might not go for the very last part).

2014 Reign Empty Amanda to U23 NT

Post by UPSoccerFanatic Fri Feb 21, 2014 9:46 am

Amanda was just named to the 20-player U23 WNT roster for the Six Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain, which will run from February 24 to March 6. As a defender. The US U23s play Japan (March 1), Sweden (March 3), and Norway (March 5).

I understand that this is Amanda's first NT callup.

Woo, woo!
