I highly recommend taking a few minutes today to read this collection of essays and poems from UP's own Brian Doyle.  This is outstanding writing, but I will warn that it is also gut-wrenching: LINK

The brother of one of my clients here in Portland was the fireman who was killed by a person leaping to their death that Brian describes.
