Ha, just making sure.
I know it was "just" Alcorn State tonight and there are far more difficult opponents upcoming. But the Pilots can be a fun team to watch when they're moving the ball around and hitting shots like they were tonight.

It was fun, and it allowed Coach to do some teaching as if it were a practice....something that is much needed with this new squad with the new look.Terry Cahill wrote:I know it was "just" Alcorn State tonight and there are far more difficult opponents upcoming. Definitely some improvement each time out...and so far they are playing each game better than the last....including the loss to CU compared to the game against UC-Davis.
For awhile tonight they were shooting 80%+ from the free-throw line, but some late misses dragged down their numbers....not to worry, they'll be fine in this category once the guys get used to the bright lights of D1 play.
The effort under the boards was much improved. I think they were outrebounded, but Alcorn is a very good rebounding team. It's definitely going to take awhile for Barreno and Hartwich to add much more than disruption in the middle....and that's ok, but at some point they're going to need fire up the inside game so the outside game will have better opportunities.
Tonight it seemed the best path to scoring was to dribble drive and kick it out to one of the four shooters who always seemed to be hanging around the perimeter just ready to fire and fall back....yes, it was fun.

A bunch of those were set shots. WCC teams aren't going to give that room.

A little under-appreciated part of this team: the set/jump shot of one D’Marques Tyson. I have a hunch that he will make some important shots even against stronger opponents with better defense. When he is on, his ability to hit the three can change a game.
Nice game D”Marques, 20 points in 15 minutes.
