Coaching Candidates.....and positive vibes!
This is from Hoopdirt.com this am
"On Monday, I mentioned some candidates to replace Eric Reveno at Portland. I have now also heard Columbia head coach Kyle Smith’s name mentioned here. His team is currently 23-10 and still playing in the CIT. He knows the WCC – he spent nine seasons at St. Mary’s before taking over at Columbia. He has also worked at Air Force and San Diego."
Let the discussions, and positive vibes begin. In hopes of securing the best man for the job!

Herb Sendek to Santa Clara?
From Azcentral.com: Former Arizona State coach Herb Sendek on Monday visited with Santa Clara officials about its open men's basketball job, a source confirmed to azcentral sports.
Earlier this month, Santa Clara fired Kerry Keating after nine years. The Broncos play in the West Coast Conference along with Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, BYU and others. They went 11-20 and 7-11 in conference action this season, their third consecutive losing season.
Evan Daniels of Scout.com first reported the news.
In nine years at ASU, Sendek went 159-137, taking the Sun Devils to two NCAA Tournaments and four NITs. Vice President of Athletics Ray Anderson fired Sendek last March and hired Buffalo's Bobby Hurley a few weeks later. ASU went 15-17 this season, finishing 11th in the Pac-12.
Sendek, 53, stayed out of coaching this season, but he kept busy, traveling to watch coaches run practice all across the country.

Have I mentioned that Terry Porter is interested in the job and that I think he would be a fantastic hire?

Re: Coaching Candidates.....and positive vibes!
Kyle Smith is an intriguing name... obviously he knows how to coach/recruit at an academically rigorous institution, has west coast experience, has Div-I coaching success... what's not to like?!
I have heard the Sendek name related to SCU before... the profile of potential hires has dramatically increased this year! Exciting!

Not sure what Hoopdirt meant by "here," but if they'd been reading PilotNation they would have seen Smith's name mentioned on March 16.upbasketball544 wrote:This is from Hoopdirt.com this am

Keep digging Hoopdirt, we want to know who else is on the list besides Smith and Blacksheep's friend, Porter.

I've been told by a source I trust very much that it's Porter's job if he wants it.

I hope your source and mine are both right and the delay is just in working out the details.

Let's just say this source is very well connected and very well known within the Portland sports community - especially when it comes to college basketball. I wouldn't be surprised if our source is the same. Not too hard to figure out...
