EUFA Euro
OK, this isn't about Argentina. Iceland beat England? Really? Are the Brits exiting UEFA, too?

Re: EUFA Euro
Quarterfinals: Portugal beat Poland on penalty kicks. Wales beat Belgium 3-1. Germany beat Italy on penalty kicks; it took 9 rounds as each team missed 3 of the first 5. One more game Sunday. The underdog home team France takes on mighty Iceland.

Re: EUFA Euro
Thursday, France vs. Germany. They've met a few times before.
France lost in 1870, but prevailed in 1918 and 1945.
Should be a good contest this year.

Re: EUFA Euro
It really should be a good one on Thursday... even though I was really hoping for an Iceland vs. Wales final!
It sure would be nice if they would do a better job of scheduling these matches around my work schedule!

Haha, yeah I have the same problem with the games interfering with my golfing.....but if you can avoid seeing the score in advance, the DVR is a life saver for we time shifters.PilotNut wrote:It sure would be nice if they would do a better job of scheduling these matches around my work schedule!

Re: EUFA Euro
So, the DVR came through for me. Out of touch from Sunday until this morning, I was finally able to watch the final. Some handsome Portuguese guy named Ronaldo got hurt, so France rolled to an easy victory. Except they forgot to score. Then in overtime they let a Portugal guy get a shot off from long distance that beat their keeper. So I didn't get to see the always exciting competition of who misses the most penalty kicks. Oh well.
After the game, they made the players climb up into the stands so the big shots could hand them medals without having to leave their seats. Like if the Broncos would have had to climb up to Roger Goodell's luxury box to get the Vince Lombardi trophy.
Another thing I noted: before each game, all the players looked to sincerely sing their country's national anthem, something U.S. pro athletes rarely or never do. I guess European nationalism is still strong.
Here's the final celebration with the championship trophy:
