WWC 2019
A pub in Miami offered a free shot for every USA goal.
I wonder how many people died?

Re: WWC 2019
At the Canada vs Sweden game in Paris at the half. It’s been a lot of fun, but really hot and muggy. The forecast is for 104 here by Wednesday. Luckily we are moving on to La Havre tomorrow.

Too bad about the outcome. I would have liked to see Sinclair & Sophie move on.

Re: WWC 2019
Rapinoe’s performance thus far has been nothing short of remarkable. Even while managing the media spotlight she is playing her best I have seen.
Really disappointed that Sinclair and Schmidt were not able to advance farther, but Canada has a lot going for them, I believe. On the up and up.
Side note: New user name, same old person behind it: I moved.

Yeah, but it's absurd to think the women deserve equal pay with the men...

Re: WWC 2019
Loved the Pilot-purple hair.
How do they decide the Golden Boot when there are multiple players with the same number of goals? In this case, there were even two on the championship team, so it couldn't have been on team success. Not to take anything away from her performance, but three of hers were on penalty kicks, which seems a bit less of an accomplishment than scoring from open play.

Lots of great stuff about Megan in the media today, but I thought this one was perhaps the best I've seen:

Re: WWC 2019
Sorry, I don't have a reference, but it's my understanding Megan won the Golden Boot because she played fewer minutes than the other two players who also scored six goals, Alex Morgan and England's Ellen White.SoreKnees wrote:How do they decide the Golden Boot when there are multiple players with the same number of goals?
More goals per minute, I guess.
Megan beat out England's Lucy Bronze for the Golden Ball (WWC MVP), and finishing 3rd was new American hero, Rose Lavelle.

Thanks. This makes total sense. I figured there had to be some objective criterion (other than hair color) but wasn't sure what it would be.

First tiebreaker- assists. She and Morgan both had 3. White had none.
Second tiebreaker- efficiency. Megan scored her 6 goals in 62 fewer minutes played than Morgan did.
The same method was used last cup when Germany’s Célia Šašić beat out Carly Lloyd for the Boot based on minutes.

I heard the last tiebreaker was goals not scored against Thailand, but I’m not sure that’s right

Re: WWC 2019
I hope the U does something to recognize Megan.... what an accomplishment and she is a great example for others.
A Nike authentic Pilot jersey (not the crap that the bookstore has had previously) with Rapinoe's name and number would be cool...

Would love to see that. I was planning to purchase a Rapinoe 4-star USA jersey, but a Pilot one would be amazing.

Re: WWC 2019
They got more. The women's prize pool was 23% of the revenue the WWC generated (approx. $131M). The men's prize pool in 2018 was only about 7% of the $6 Billion revenue.DoubleDipper wrote:Yeah, but it's absurd to think the women deserve equal pay with the men...
