Pilots @ San Jose State
Nice road win for the Pilots! Answered an SJSU push in the second half with a run of their own and looked cool and collected down the stretch.
Has to be a nice feeling for the returning players after the way last year went.

Re: Pilots @ San Jose State
Another well-coached game by UP as they defeated the SJSU zone defense by putting guard Isaiah White at the high post and spreading the court which allowed him to penetrate and score or pass...resulting in White scoring 17 points and dishing out 7 assists.
Once again the Pilots faced a team that was much larger, especially down low, and although Diabate and Tryon did not put up big numbers they were very effective holding their own without the help of Hogland. Hugh thought he might be able to play today, but once again he found during warmups that he needs more time to recover from the hit he took a week ago.
It was a very short bench tonight with only eight players, and coming off a tough fight with USC two days ago, the guys started to fade a little at the 30 minute mark, but unlike last year's team that might have folded when SJSU got close, this year's team has much more poise, especially when White is on the floor.
SJSU was favored by 3.5 points, so for the second game in a row UP beat the odds, but more importantly this time they got the W.

Re: Pilots @ San Jose State
I'm very happy to have already been proven wrong when I predicted that the Pilots would not again match their 46% 3-point shooting against USC. They followed up that performance by hitting 45% against San Jose State! And even better, the 2-point shooting went from 35% against USC to an even 50% against SJSU. If we can hit 45% of threes and 50% of twos every game...
Diabate and Tryon were more effective on offense, but getting Hogland back will still be a huge lift. I look forward to seeing him return to the court this coming weekend.
A road win is always a good win, even if it is against the #324 team in the country. The competition really steps up now: Maine is #322.
Onward, Pilots!

Our victory over the Spartans secured us land in this year's edition of the college basketball imperialism map. We lost our initial territory to USC (you can see the USC logo over NW Oregon and SW Washington), and SJSU had gained Nassau County, NY after beating Hofstra with their first game. So, by way of our victory, we now control SJSU's original territory plus Nassau County.

Quick rules: territory is originally controlled by whatever D1 school is closest to the geographic center of a county. That's why PSU controlled Multnomah County and not us. You lose all territory when you lose, and gain whatever territory a school had when you beat them.

The good news is that since we didn’t own Portland to begin with, UW won’t have it by the end of next week. They play Maine right after we do.

Nice win, Chase Adams is a real disruptive force on defense. Looking forward to putting the WCC streak to bed January 4 against San Francisco!

Re: Pilots @ San Jose State
SJSU’s woes continue as they go 0 for the state of Oregon losing to OSU 83-48 after losing to UP and PSU. The result was made to not look so bad by a 10-0 run by the Spartans at the end against the OSU tail end of the bench.
The saving grace was that it was a tournament in the Orleans Arena to empty stands.
