Because a student-athlete enters the portal doesn't mean they plan to leave; many will enter the portal with the option to return.

I think the concern for many players at all schools that are having coaching changes is the new coach won't want to keep them, and they need other options.

That is another reason to sign a coach earlier than most other schools so the new coach can evaluate his guys and decide whether to re-recruit them.

"Easily" is correct.

When the dust settles it will likely be over 2,000, perhaps even 3,000 according to some.

The transfer portal could be a bit of a game for some players, but they need to be careful they don't get shutout...it has happened in the past.

A total of 50 entered the portal yesterday, and as was mentioned, most teams are still playing.

There are currently at least 16 D1 head coach positions open...will that number double by April 5th?

It will probably be pretty close, prior to the beginning of this season there were 28 coaching changes.

It would be interesting to see how each of the coaches fared in their first year...although I doubt any of them took over teams that were 1-42 in conference play over the previous three seasons. Evil or Very Mad

I am very impressed with Stan Johnson at LMU, and of course Mike Magpayo at UCR.

There are now at least five Pilots in the portal: Taki, Quincy, Cly, Hayden, and Zac.

I saw Taki yesterday and he told me he put his name in the transfer portal so that coaches would see he's available for his “free” year when he graduates in May. He also said he’d like to stay at UP and go to grad school if the new coach wants him.

He also thought Hayden and Zac were already getting some interest from other schools, and the other guys in the portal might stay at UP…it depends upon the new coach.

It is no surprise that Adams and Diabate are now in the transfer portal...it is my guess both will leave.

Wasn't sure where else to leave this...

In the new season of Last Chance U on Netflix they focus on basketball at East Los Angeles College and Assistant Coach Chris Buchanan makes a quick cameo about 10 minutes into episode one. So, we were scouting at ELAC at some point.

I have my qualms with Last Chance U, but this was a surprise to see.

Isiah Dasher is in the transfer portal...

I've never met him, so I don't know if he really wants to leave or is just letting other schools know he's available.

Porter ran-off players with regularity, which only points toward bad recruiting, lack of player development, and desperation, and apparently the current players are fearing they too will be run-off by the new staff.

I'm told that did not happen when Reveno was coach.

I saw that and thought the same thing, but it is difficult to say what he'll do. As we've found, it is pretty standard to throw your name in the hat when your coach departs, but he is too good to not be wanted by the new EWU coach.

He's a redshirt senior, so with a "free" year coming, he'd have one year to play and would be a grad-transfer. Although he averaged 18.4 this season, he dropped 41 on Northern Arizona last season. Shocked

Prior to today Davison was noncommittal about coming back, but senior Aussie Jack Perry said he would return to EWU.

I would imagine Legans will encourage the EWU players to stay, but kids, even grad-transfers, don't always listen... Razz

For now, I am questioning the veracity of Goodman's tweet, but he is usually spot-on in his reporting.

Maybe I'm just refusing to believe it.

It would be nice if Marcus and his wonderful hair would return to his hometown...I know UP put the full court press on him two years ago, but so did Pacific and at least three Pac-12 teams in addition to UW.

He has a high energy level and is a streaky shooter...just needs to throttle-back and be more selective at times...he will get better with maturity and the right coaching.

Davison would likely be a welcome addition at UP, but his playing time and numbers really dropped off this past season.

During the 2019-20 season he started all 31 games, played 31 minutes per game and averaged 18.4 ppg.

But during the season that just ended, he started only 11 of EWU's 22 games, averaged 21 minutes per game, and his scoring dropped to 9.8 ppg.

Coach Legans will obviously be in the best position to evaluate Davison's potential during his one remaining graduate year...I believe he got his undergraduate degree in 2020.
