The high scorer for each team got 20 pts.
The second highest scorer for L&C got 12. The second highest on the Ducks got 10.

Game Day!
Try to get there early and cheer for the women's team against Willamette...I promise you will get hooked on UP Women's Basketball if you do.
Tonight's men's game against Lewis & Clark is one of two scheduled non-D1 games this season (the other being Multnomah the week after the PKI), and it should be a good opportunity for the staff to look at guys coming off the bench. It will be interesting to see which of the 3 freshmen get in the game tonight because it is likely the other(s) will redshirt.
Last year's Lewis & Clark game was an exhibition, and the Pilots were led by Chris Austin who will not play this season. Generally, there has not been much change in UP's main contributors from then, but those who participated in last year's game and are now gone are Wyatt Watson, Matija Svetozarevic, Matheus Silveira, Yaru Harvey, and Skylar Wilson.
The primary reason UP lost to Utah Valley in a closed scrimmage just over a week ago was because of turnovers (16?) and missed free-throws (16?). As you will recall, the Pilots were one of the top teams in the nation last season in free throw percentage...let's hope they can return to that form tonight.

• Portland ranked seventh in the nation in free throw percentage (.791) to establish a new UP single-season record. The Pilots also finished 12th in free throws made (544) nationally last year.

That's two instances of poor free throw shooting. They also had issues in the scrimmage against Seattle Pacific. Not sure how a good FT team loses that skill. Too much weightlifting?

Re: Lewis & Clark @ Pilots (Monday, Nov. 7 @ 7:30 PM)
I have heard Coach Legans say that he never coaches free throw shooting because the guys are "better than I was as a player," but I am told there was a free throw shooting clinic on the Tuesday after the team arrived home from Utah.up7587 wrote:That's two instances of poor free throw shooting. Re: Lewis & Clark @ Pilots (Monday, Nov. 7 @ 7:30 PM)
Decent student turnout tonight, at least for the first half.
Caught the post game radio broadcast. Seems Joel Sobotka, former head coach at PSU and CSUN, and assistant under Eric Reveno for several years (incl. the good years), will be the color commentator this season.

6-11 Aussie freshman, Bol Dengdit, will redshirt.DoubleDipper wrote: It will be interesting to see which of the 3 freshmen get in the game tonight because it is likely the other(s) will redshirt.
Coach Legans says he is ready to play but did not want to give up a whole year of eligibility to play about 7 or 8 minutes per game.

That's for sure.Dean Murdoch wrote:Buzzcut Jack Perry is going to take some getting used to
When I saw Jack at a social gathering recently, I figured he was one of the new student managers.
Jack told me the main reason for the buzzcut is because he's now in grad school and will be looking for employment and wants to make a good first impression on a prospective employer.
Good move, IMO.

Fun to have Pilot Hoops back and to get a look at the new players. Looking forward to seeing them against D1 competition and this schedule escalates in a hurry for UP!
