Pelé
Edson Arantes do nascimento, aka Pelé, died today at 82 suffering for years from kidney and prostate problems and colon cancer.
He is credited with scoring a world record 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances during a 21-year career, including 77 goals in 92 matches for his country.
I got to see him in the twilight of his career when he played for the Cosmos. He was still amazing to watch. Some say he stopped a civil war in Nigeria for 48 hours so both sides could see the Supereagles play Santos on tour.
The only player to win the World Cup three times, lifting the trophy in 1958, 1962 and 1970, Pele was named Fifa's Player of the Century in 2000.
