Re: 2024 Recruiting
For those curious about our prospective student athletes this year, note Ella Zimmerman this weekend scored a career high 38 points against Pallisades hs, to go along with 13 rebounds. Caitlin Monahan scored 38 against Meadowdale, including 21 in the first half recently.

DoubleDipper wrote:The video posted by wrv above (and below), of UP recruit Ella Zimmerman, is one of the best recruiting videos I have seen...
After losing Emily Sewell to the portal, it seems we could use an Ella on the team, joining Emma Strelein and Emme Shearer...
If no one goes into the portal this spring, and with Dickie, Cochrane, and Hamilton running out of eligibility and Gabriel becoming eligible, the addition of Zimmerman and Eshoo should round out the recruiting for the Class of 2024.
I was waiting for the Blocks reel.
I’m getting use to that.

Re: 2024 Recruiting
Our commit from Fremd hs, Brynn Eshoo, was named female student athlete of the week following games of 23 and 17 points, and described in a manner consistent with the play of Alex Fowler, a physical and skilled post player for whom the defense had no answers.
https://twitter.com/BradyJ_Peterson/status/1746989411332440509
The Pilots might benefit from some skilled down low scoring.

Ella Zimmereman has very good footwork for her size and age.
Without looking it up, who is the most famous basketball player to come from Redondo Union High School?

Re: 2024 Recruiting
I recall that Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, part of the Manson cult, was from Redondo Beach.
I know she attempted to assassinate President Ford in the mid-70s, and got life in prison for it, but I know nothing of her basketball skills unless she developed them in prison.
I think this "most famous" basketball player may only be famous to some..

Re: 2024 Recruiting
Bill Laimbeer is the most famous basketball player to come from Redondo Union High School. At least that is the most famous one I remember. He played in the NBA for around 10 years and later coached.
This from an article about the greatest "Floppers" in NBA history in which Laimbeer was number 1:
Bill Laimbeer
A cornerstone of the famed "Bad Boys" championship teams in Detroit, Laimbeer was vilified around the league for his aggressive play, head games and the trademark "Laimbeer flop." He was the most hated player in the league during his heyday. Legendary Celtics broadcaster Johnny Most dubbed him, simply, "The Flopper."
I don't know for sure, but I don't think the infamous Lynette Fromme was a basketball player. At least not at the varsity level, because unfortunately there weren't varsity sports for girls back then.

Laimbeer’s wiki says he went to Palos Verdes HS

The final score on that second game was 96-89.
That’s a pretty amazing total for a 32 minute high school game.
Either great offense or absolutely no defense.

Fair point. Ella followed up that game with a 27 point, 17 rebound, 4 block effort when her team scored only 56 total. Her coach, somewhat contrary to the no defense theory, says Ella is in a "good zone" and hence the results. For her part, Ella says she has turned up her efforts in conference play.
Feel free to fact check.
Regardless, she will be here soon enough. Let's hope her play translates.
