2009 update
I just ran across some pictures of today's (Feb 2) USA-Germany match at
the Future Stars U-17 competition in New Zealand.
Here's a picture of Cloee Colohan (in USA gold) getting friendly with a German aquaintance
Ignorant commentator claims Cloee pushed her.
USA defeated Germany 3-2 to win the tournament with 3 wins, no losses or ties.
Theres a short story on the tournament here: NZ Soccer
More pictures here Getty pictures
for the result of the above discussion, go here.

Re: 2009 update
Great pic of the future Pilots' central defender. We're going to have quite the interior defense in 2009: Cloee, Lindsi Lisonbee and Michelle Olivier (2008)!
(That's not counting any veterans who might play back there, also).

I just realized that the Getty images has another picture of Cloee.
Here she is Giving a friendly pat on the shoulder to Germany's Tabea Kremme.

Re: 2009 update
Cloee looks big, strong and solid to me. (I've seen her listed at 5'8". Lisonbee at 5'10". Olivier at 5'9".) Big, tough and strong central defenders! I'm guessing they all have speed or Garrett wouldn't have pursued them. All have junior national team experience. Feels real good just dreaming about the future of our team.....

Re: 2009 update
I just saw something indicating that Ellen Parker, who I believe plays for the Sereno Soccer Club out of Phoenix, has given the Pilots a verbal commitment. I believe she may be one of the Region IV ODP players. I can't vouch for whether what I saw is right. Maybe one of you wizards can verify?
Re: 2009 update
Well, her player bio shows that she is being courted by Randy Waldrum, Jerry Smith, and Anson Dorrance,
Athlete page
So far there are only rumors about her for 2010.... whatdya find?

Re: 2009 update
I found it on an update to a list maintained by BigSoccer blogger cbg2004. Check out the following link to cbg's list: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=poknaL_RaORDOMcyz_riBDA&gid=0
I'll ask cbg2004 how he/she knows about this oral commitment.
Later addition: cbg2004 says he received the information from another Sereno parent whom he considers credible. He is seeking to verify this with Ellen Parker herself and will advise me of the outcome of that inquiry.
On looking more closely, I was looking at cbg2004's 2010 graduating players (not 2009), which is consistent with the information on your link. Pretty far out there to be making a commitment. Assuming she has made an oral commitment, and that the Pilots want her enough that she thinks that is a good commitment to make, what does that mean about her? She is listed as a midfielder.

Re: 2009 update
The reality is that the 2009 class is almost set and the top programs are hard at work on the 2010 class right now. I wouldn't be at all surprised if UP had a couple commits for 2010 already.
The history in the past has been that the early commits are some of the best players, so I'm betting that Parker is a good one, wherever she goes.

Re: 2009 update
So, for the Class of 2009, I have Cloee Colohan, Lindsi Lisonbee, Kendall Johnson (Lincoln), and Brooke Taylor (West Linn) as committed. Any others?
Re: 2009 update
I think that's it for now, UPSF. However, I believe Courtney Verloo is still uncommitted.

Re: 2009 update
After Saturday night's game, I ran into a fella at a bar who claimed to be the girl's JV coach at Tualitan and was pretty certain that Courtney Verloo was wanting to play out of the state and was deciding between UCLA and Stanford.

Re: 2009 update
Wouldn't surprise me, ejjqb. Not everyone wants to stay home for college. Growing up in the area of course she has to know how great the program is and how awesome Merlo Field is. But if she really wants to get out of state for college... not much we can do about it.

Re: 2009 update
Timing is everything. Could Courtney had waited too long? I don't know...I think UP may still be in it. Which school can hold out for her the longest? Is there a possibility that Standford or UCLA recinds before Portland does? There's still a chance. They want to fill and secure spots on their team as much as UP does. Let's see who blinks first...if Courtney can't make up her mind pretty soon.

Another 2009 recruit Woo - Hoo!!
Well, it's in an article about the high cost of club soccer and the competition between club and prep, but the cat's out of the bag on another 2009 recruit.
Molly Kier of the Sacramanto club team Boca Juniors announced in the article that she's coming to play for UP.
Sac Bee
I've seen her listed as a defender and as a mid. She captained her club team as a defender when they won an age group national championship in 2006. Not sure how she'll end up contributing once she gets here.
Can't wait to find out.

Molly Klier & the 2009 Class of Recruits
Woo Hoo, indeed, Geezer!!! I have searched around a bit for info about Molly Klier and have come up with zip. Your article says she's one of the Sacramento area's top players, so that says something. I like it that she knew she had to get into club tournaments to get recruited. That tells me she is a go-getter with an eye on her future goals. I like that attitude!
Looks like your back from vacation, Geez. Must be nice living the good life! (I say that 'cause I'm jealous...)
I believe that gives us five confirmed recruits for 2009: Cloee Colohan, Lindsi Lisonbee, Kendall Johnson, Brooke Taylor and Molly Klier. (Sounds like Courtney Verloo is going to play at Stanford or UCLA). That's five incoming and I believe we'll only have two outgoing: Rachael Rapinoe and probably sis Megan. The Pilots seem to be adding some much needed depth. 2008 will probably be another short-handed year, personnel wise. Perhaps starting with 2009, we will no longer have that problem on a yearly basis. (One can hope...)

Geezer,
Nice to have you back... not sure what we did without you... I was getting concerned that Nurse Kratchet sent you to solitary.
