PSU's Tim Bennett resigns Empty PSU's Tim Bennett resigns

Post by Geezaldinho Sun Feb 17, 2008 2:36 pm

This week's Vanguard made the announcement just days after the letters of intent came in for PSU's soccer team. I sure hope those recruits weren't duped, and knew that it was at least a possibility.

a Big Soccer poster thinks he's going for an assistant's job at Northern Iowa, where the head coach was just hired from a D3 job.

anyone have ideas where the new head coach will come from? -- the current assistant?

Vanguard article

<edit> I meant Bennett is going to Iowa State, not N. Iowa, as I got corrected in a PM

PSU's Tim Bennett resigns Empty He's a Cyclone

Post by Geezaldinho Tue Feb 19, 2008 5:48 pm

The announcement was made today that Tim Bennett is going to be associate head coach at Iowa State to new head coach Wendy Dillinger.

OregonLive

He's a native of Omaha. so I guess it makes sense for him, and his last two recruiting classes at PSU have been pretty darn good.

PSU's Tim Bennett resigns Empty Re: PSU's Tim Bennett resigns

As a followup on PSU's Tim Bennett resignation, Nathan Hellman, who broke the resignation story in his blog, gives a bit of opinion about PSU's problems keeping a coach.

raising hell

He asserts, among other things, that PSU only has 8 scholarships to give, which makes this years' recruiting class all the more amazing.

UP wasn't fully funded until around 1998, I think. the WCC allowed 2 fewer scholarships than the Pac 10, as I recall. All of D1 was working with 10 or 12 scholarships. Now it's 14.

But Bennett had to work with 6 fewer scholarships than the rest of D! and the other Big Sky schools.

PSU's Tim Bennett resigns Empty Schott named new coach

Post by Geezaldinho Fri Feb 22, 2008 4:28 pm

It's official.

Assistant coach Laura Schott has been named as the new Head coach at PSU.

Schott Named Vikings' New Head Soccer Coach

Schott was a graduate of Jesuit and played for FC Portland, then went to Cal. She originally came to PSU to organize practices until Tim Bennett was hired, and stayed on.

She apparently only has 8 scholarships to work with, but the last couple recruiting classes have been pretty good, so expect PSU's fortunes to go up a bit.

Schott has ties to UP besides FC Portland. She played in Clive's Addidas Summer League in the 90's, and played beside Regina Holan at Cal, when she transfered there.

Good luck to her. With limited resources, she'll need it.
