WCC Championship Game
USD 30, GU 27 at the half.
Looks like GU got away with a shot clock violation right before the buzzer, though, so it should be 25. The WCC officials strike again.
And no, Doug Gottleib, a shot clock violation is not reviewable. Not the worst mistake by an announcer, though.

USD does it Again!!
Wow! You have to hand it to USD. They came up with two gangbuster games two days in a row.
The Grier hire looks like the steal of the century.
I've been mulling over the NCAA seeds. Does anybody see a way 3 WCC teams WON'T get in?

Re: WCC Championship Game
Wow, what a game! I love seeing that look of despair come over the faces of smug Zag fans.
But we can have three teams from the conference in the dance now. The talking heads on ESPN think it's likely SMC will still get the at-large. A team with 25 wins, a respectable OOC slate, and no bad losses? A travesty if they were to get left out. How does this affect the seeding of Gonzaga, and, for that matter, SMC? I really don't know where USD will land in terms of a first round matchup. They do have 21 wins after all. Thoughts?

I think the Zags and SMC had shots at 3 or 4 seeds. They are likely now 7's or 8's.

Re: WCC Championship Game
Down goes 'zaga! Down goes 'zaga! Nice job by USD to make the home court pay off with a 69 - 62 victory.
Bet Few wishes the Vegas experiment was already in place. Looked like the Zag fans made a good showing in San Diego (long road trip). So they'll have no problem showing up in L.V. I wonder how the rest of the schools will represent. (Besides you Purple Pride crazies of course.)
WCC is making a few bubble teams sweat. Maybe even Oregon. SMU has a win over UO, and no bad losses (heard that on ESPN), while Oregon has a couple stinkers on their resume. It'll be fun to watch all the speculation on tournament bids this week. And perhaps a couple WCC tournament victories to raise the image of the conference.

That was a pretty sweet game. Not like Gonzaga won't go anyway, but sweet!

That IS fun
It was fun to see the Zag fans stone quiet, but the players were men. They went straight over to Greir and gave him a hug.

Nice one, Geezer!!! And nice one from you too, Drummer!
Seriously though... looking back on it, Brandon Johnson probably WAS the WCC POY. No one was more valuable to his team, and San Diego definitely exceeded expectations at 11-3.
For a long time I was writing San Diego off as the "best of the rest" and didn't think they were anything special, but these last few games they really showed me something. With "Sleepy" Pomare playing with some fire and getting points from Rob Jones and De'Jon Jackson, they are no pushover.
Great job by them... now let's hope the WCC gets three in. That would be really cool!

Re: WCC Championship Game
USD has a decent resume now... and they are 3-3 in 6 games vs. GU & SMC. Not bad.
I really think all 3 WCC teams could do some damage--if the Zags & SMC snap out of it. USD is solid and could scare a high seed, too!
We gotta get 3 in....!

Brandon's play in the tournament kind of puts that 3 pointer falling out of bounds in a little different context, doesn't it?

Lets not pick at that scab... it had just healed over...
But a very valid point.

Re: WCC Championship Game
Well, I think most of the other schools are probably liking the idea of a weekend in Vegas. As for Gonzaga fans, well, they travel anywhere since they can get out of Spokane for a few days...
I was at the 2004 NCAA second round in Seattle, and there were a fair number of Gonzaga fans, but most of the crowd was cheering for Nevada. I think the crowds at tournaments tend to pull for the underdog (or in my case, against Gonzaga).
