Wow. He only got three years.

I feel bad for Tention. He was a missed lay-up away from the NCAAs his first season, appeared to be the No. 1 or No. 2 team last year before Worthy went down, and then had a super young team this year. Kind of bad luck all around, and it seemed like his recruiting was picking up big time with guys like Orlando Johnson, Tim Diedrichs, and Terron Sutton from this class and Isaiah Jenkins, Wendell Wright, and Kwame Vaughn coming in next year.

I know UP was recruiting Wright... wonder if that will open back up.

This is a tough one for me - I know the performance wasn't there, but it really did seem like things were starting to turn the corner for him, and he really did have some really bad luck in his first two seasons. But then again, 5-26 is still 5-26.

* Thanks to Riseralda View from Dons Central for the scoop. *

My goodness the WCC coaching carousel is starting to spin out of control... I dont like this at all; IMO he deserved at least 1 more year to prove himself, unless there is more to the story that we dont know yet.

This makes 2 coaches in a row at LMU (Tention & Aggers) that were fired under "quick trigger finger" situations. Hmmm.... pale

Tention Fired from LMU Empty woah!

Well, I guess it's better to do it after the season and after the recruits are signed.

I wonder if they have a plan to replace him, so they have a chance at keeping their players?

This is a tough, tough business. I feel badly for him as well. Especially when getting fired from a WCC HC position typically means you never get another DI HC job again.

I wonder what UP's expected timetable for Rev is? I don't think it's three years, but four wouldn't surprise me. You just never know in this business.

Good Luck to Rodney - I hope someone gives him another shot.

I think that a hoops coach is on a much shorter leash under Larry Williams/Fr. Beauchamp than they were under Etzel/Tyson.

If there isnt notable improvement in the program next season, I think the heat will be on, but 2009-2010 will likely be the "do or die" season... Now, the definition of success for the coming years... that is a big question. Question

If 2009-2010 is do-or-die, Reveno better recruit, recruit, recruit! And it will have to be players that can meet the UP standards. Otherwise we'll see more years like this where 3 of our former players are dancing with other teams while we scrape the bottom of the league and exit in the first round. I don't think quick coaching changes leads to success. You continually hire and fire, and if you do hit a home run, he'll leave anyway for a more prominent job. With the right coach, show a little loyalty and hope you receive some in return when he gets it done. Who needs a Saban/Rodriguez type!

Agreed. We should go after the Bennett/SMC model.... If you are going to fire a coach after a short time, you better have a PRIME candidate ready in the wings.
