Way to Go Davidson Empty Way to Go Davidson

How fun was it to watch them hang tough with an awesome Kansas team? Wish Curry would have been able get a shot off at the end, but you have to give it up to Kansas for playing great defense on that last play.

Anyway, I just saw this on the LMU board... ridiculous. It was the front page of CBS Sports right after the Kansas win. Maybe the writer was a KU grad or was mad at Davidson for ruining his bracket or something, but come on... totally out of line:

Feel good nonsense? Convincing win? Too talented for Davidson?

Something tells me whoever wrote that is in some very hot water right now.

Wow. Just went to CBS Sportsline, and they are still calling it feel good nonsense:

What gives? Would CBS really have rather had Wisconsin in that game? I coach a little league team, and a week ago I arranged a parents meeting for 4:00 yesterday, stupidly not realizing that a game would be going on then. Well, sure enough, the dads that did show up wanted to just get the info and go, and the ones that didn't called me and said they couldn't miss the end of the game. (I listened to it on the radio, thank God.)

Teams like Davidson and their "feel good nonsense" are what March Madness is all about. Seriously, I'm starting to feel pretty darn mad at CBS.

This illustrates the problem with much of the national sports press and the NCAA. They are fair weather fans. They always go nuts about the top teams - the winners. In basketball, they couldn't care less about any team not named Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, etc. Just look how they treated Gonzaga the first year they made a run. Honestly, I don't care what school or what conference they are from. If a team can make as far as Davidson has, they are a good team, PERIOD!

I call what CBS has done there utterly classless; but, then this is CBS we're talking about. . . I've come to not expect anything better from them. . .

Agreed, SciFi. Though I would think that CBS would have liked it just as much if Davidson won, since that would be the big story of the tournament and would have a bunch of people talking. Now that Kansas won, the story is that all four #1 seeds made it, but still... it wasn't like it would have been terrible for them if Davidson won.

Anyway, just checked back on the website, and someone finally change it. It now reads, "Kansas ended Davidson's improbable run 59-57", which is much better. Still... they can't erase the fact that they had that other line up there for nearly an entire day. Total BS.

A 2-point win is convincing? It would seem that "feel-good nonsense" is a big reason people watch. What was the big story in 2006? George Mason in the Final Four. Think that helped the ratings?

Of course, this is the network that subjects us to Billy Packer. The selection show in which Phil Martelli called him a jacka$$ after he said St. Joe's didn't deserve a 1 seed is still one of my favorite "shining moments."
