APR Out
I posted this in the 'Other Sports' section, but figured I would add it here too. The NCAA released the APR today and from what I can tell USF has lost a scholarship for next year due to continued low scores. Sucks for them for sure.
Anyway, UP's APR is actually better than I thought it would be considering all the player departures over the past few years. We are at 957, which is in the 70-80 percentile for all men's basketball teams.
Also, just for comparison's sake, here is the rest of the WCC:
USD - 971
LMU - 971
GU - 965
SCU - 964
UP - 957
SMC - 939
PEP - 926
USF - 882

Re: APR Out
I don't believe they lose a slot this time around. It usually takes repeated scores below 900 to lose a scholarship.
If you look at USF's public report, the only action is "Public Notice"
I'm sure what is happening in private is NCAA compliance folks crawling all over USF's AD and a remediation plan.
If they keep having low scores - THEN they lose the scholarship.
UP's score isn't so low because some of those guys who left for academic reasons are still enrolled elsewhere and making academic progress at their new schools.

Portland State
Our brethren across the river also didn't fare so well with the APR.
The basketball team got a warning, and the Football team is limited to 27 scholarships for the 2009-2010 year.

Re: APR Out
Maybe I read it wrong, but I'm almost certain USF did indeed lose a scholarship. They were on public notice last year. Here is a cut/paste from USF's report:
Contemporaneous Penalty: Limited to awarding 12 athletic scholarship renewals.

Right you are--
I must have linked up to last year's report somehow.
Too bad, but it could have been worse, the NCAA can take away up to 10% of the scholarships, rounded up. For basketball, that's 2 of the 13 scholarships.
Washington State really got hit in football, I see. They lost 8 of their 85 scolarships.
