TopDrawer Poll is out. Smokin' again?
TopDrawer soccer has it's preseason ranking out. This one is also mostly a rehash of last year's final RPI. I don't really have a beef about UP's rank there, since he can't know much about us right now.
It will be interesting to see how quickly he's willing to shuffle things around this year. I assume he's trying to pick the tournament field like he did last year.
A couple interesting things:
He's got Stanford at 13 though the PAC 10 coaches have them winning the conference. and he has USC at #1, even though the coaches have them #3 in the conference. Clearly something has to budge.
Notice anything else? Yup, that's right. No other WCC teams in the top 20. He's got Santa Clara at 34 (!!!) and San Diego at 46.
And he apparently thinks that will be it for the WCC this year. BIG mistake to underestimate SCU, even with their injuries.
Maybe he's just setting Jerry Smith up for COY.

Serious as a heart attack. Well, only half kidding. Last time UP won a National championship, Jerry got the accolades due to lowered expectations.
Dec. 6, 2005
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Although the action on the field for the 2005 women's soccer season is in the books, the honors and accolades continue to roll in for the nation's top players and coaches. Santa Clara earned one such postseason honor today as head coach Jerry Smith was named West Region Coach of the Year by his peers, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced.
Paula Wilkins won the NSCAA National award that year. Garrett got frozen out.
Same thing happened to Clive in 2002 when Tim Ward got the WCC nod at Pepperdine, though he did get the National award.

Topdrawer - are you reading this?
This evening there was a complete reshuffle of the topdrawer poll.
We didn't change, but everyone else did around us. Santa Clara got in as a projected seed (#15) this time, San Diego is #27, and Pepperdine comes in at #42.
and it's 5 West coast seeds, 4 in the top 10, and 4 WCC teams in his tournament projection.
I kind of liked UNC at #9, though. I shoulda taken a screen shot of that.
