UP vs Kennesaw State
Did everyone forget that we have a game today? 4:30 PM up in Seattle at the Husky Invitational.
First things first, here's the live stats link:
http://www.cstv.com/gametracker/launch/gt_wsoccer.html?event=679663&school=cstv&sport=wsoccer&camefrom=&startschool=&
Here's a little info on the Kennesaw State Owls (of Kennesaw, Georgia), an NCAA tournament team last year and the defending champions of the Atlantic Sun Conference. They are currently 3-0-1 (the tie was actually a PK shooutout win, but that counts as a tie for records) with wins over Alabama A&M (8-0), Jackson State (3-1) and Berry (1-0) and a tie with Davidson (1-1, which they won 4-3 on PKs).
I believe (this is off the top of my head) Kennesaw State finished in the top 50 RPI last season, so they won't be pushovers for sure. And history over the past few years has shown that we've struggled at the Husky Invitational a bit... we lost to Purdue last year and only beat Cal-Fullerton 2-1 (granted, those were good teams), while the year before we narrowly beat UW-Milwaukee 3-2. So I think what Lauren Hansen said in the Podcast is true... this would be a great chance for the Pilots to really focus in and make a statement.
Anyway, click here to check out stats, rosters, etc:
http://ksuowls.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/kenn-w-soccer-body.html
And of course you can read the UP release as well:

The Owls (3-0-1) are off to a good start to the 2008 season after an impressive 2007 season that saw the program with the Atlantic Sun Conference and advance to the NCAA playoffs with a 17-4-0 overall record. The team returns 11 letterwinners and seven starters from that squad.
Kennesaw State opened the season with an 8-0 win over Alabama A&M and also has wins against Jackson State (3-1) and Berry (1-0). The Owls tied Davidson (1-1) as well. Caitlin Dingle was voted the Atlantic Sun Preseason Player of the Year after tallying a league-leading 17 goals last year. Nine players have already scored goals in 2008 for KSU, including four players with two goals each.
Head coach Rob King is in his seventh year at Kennesaw State and boasts an impressive resume. King led the Owls to an undefeated season and the NCAA Division II title in 2003. The following season, KSU went D-I and by 2007 King had the Owls make their first NCAA Division I playoff appearance, losing to Florida State in the first round.
Friday’s contest will be the first-ever meeting between Portland and Kennesaw State.

Re: UP vs Kennesaw State
Thanks for the wake up call Stoney. I have been dwelling on last weekend too much. Ordinarily, I cringe when we play teams that may not be national top twenty rated. But the team has said repeatedly that it is a major goal this year not to look past anyone and to really zero in on each opponent as they make their was through the schedule.
It would be nice to get a shut out roll started and put up some goal/assist points for the players.

Bumpity bump bump.
And I'm sure that PilotNut would appreciate it if I pointed out that the chat room feature is still alive and kicking. Kind of a tough time with people sneaking off work early on a Friday, but if you are on a computer watching live stats, you should hop in the chatroom!

Pilots score 2 goals in first 7 minutes
Enyeart from Foxhoven; then Foxhoven from Schmidt. 2-0
Not entirely clear from gametracker who is playing where but Davis; Tsao, Nicholson, McCluskie, Reed?; Winters, Burk, Schmidt, Rapinoe; Enyeart, Foxhoven.
Only surprise is that Olivier is not playing. Possible that Schmidt is playing defense and Reed midfield but Sophie has a shot and an assist in 8 minutes so more likely she's playing midfield.

Re: UP vs Kennesaw State
Now Charney makes is 3-0.
Gametracker shows three defenders, four mids, two forwards and Megan as F/M. Maybe some experimenting my Garret?

Make that three!
Charney Burk is on the score sheet; and Garrett pulls off Sophie S and Jessica T and gives Janelle Jacka and Emma Nelson their first action of the season. First action of her career for Nelson.

Re: UP vs Kennesaw State
Kennesaw State is reportedly playing five defenders. Looks like that hasn't worked so well. It's 3-0 Pilots midway through the 1st half.

Great start by the Pilots; now if UW had only turned on the cameras a little early for their game, we could watch...

Those who didn't see actin
The following players didn't see any action today
Hailee: supposedly aiming for redshirt
Olivier: any word on reason?
Halley: any word on reason?; I liked the way she looked against USC and figure she will one who will be counted on to help fill Rachael's shoes
Sweeney: 2nd game in a row; any insight?
From those who were able to go up to watch the game, it would be nice to get your impressions of the players. I expect that you may not have online access until after you return home. So hopefully your feedback will include the Colgate game also.
Thanks!

Re: UP vs Kennesaw State
I heard that Sweeney sustained a shoulder injury last weekend that kept her out. It is not supposed to be serious. The rest I do not know.

Re: UP vs Kennesaw State
Looks like the National Weather Service forgot to mention that Force 5 Hurricane Michelle (E.) was touching down on Kennesaw, Georgia. Call FEMA. Wow; a romp by the Pilots.
Too bad my day job got in the way of following the game in real time; my thanks to those who reported while it was in progress.

Re: UP vs Kennesaw State
Clinic by the Pilots.
If you didn't see the game, no one played where you think for much of the game. Keelin was AMF to close out the first. Then she was a forward with Tsao in the second. Jacka was a wide mid. Charney was center mid in the second. Emma played Tsao's spot for most of the second. Kelly was CD. Jackman was holding mid. And on it went...
There isn't much to discuss.
Kennedaw just couldn't play at the UP pace. The game was never in doubt for a minute. We started counting touches. A typical possession was 8-14 touches.
I stayed for the UW-Colgate game. Expect more of the same on Sunday.
We didn't have the energy for the 8-nil song.
