WOW! Men's XC Second at Bill Dellinger Invitational

Wow wow wow... the UP men ran extremely, extremely well at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Eugene today, finishing second overall but with David Kinsella and Alfred Kipchumba finishing 1-2 and with Tommy Betterbed finishing 6th. Oregon's depth gave them the team win by seven points (and, in fairness, Galen Rupp and Kenny Klotz didn't run), but still... Kinsella winning that race is amazing and Kipchumba, a true freshman, finishing second? Wow. There were I five ranked teams in this meet, and the Pilots (ranked 7) beat Alabama (ranked 5). Also, according to Coach Conner's podcast from yesterday, UP was running without two of its varsity runners as well.

Here is a quote from Kinsella:

“This completely blew away my expectations. I was barely running in July, and coach just told me to get in there with no expectations, individually. After this, that may have to change, but it’s kind of nice not having expectations.”

“Beating Alabama was a surprise. I’m really happy. We thought this was going to be a rebuilding season.”
