I've listened to the podcast three times, now. I'll probably do it again. There's a lot in there.

Re: Podcast with Lisa Sari
The interview touched on the subject of the different lineups that Garrett has been trying because of the impending loss of the three amigas to the U-20 WNT. I'm intrigued with the lineup that had Charney at center-mid and Megan R. at left-mid. Megan seems to be adept at the center spot, but Charney does seem to be very good with the ball at her feet and with distribution. I'm curious if coach will go with that lineup again on Sunday and let the freshman show off her skills in front of a boisterous home crowd and on national TV?

Re: Podcast with Lisa Sari
Lisa specifically mentioned Charney being a natural with the "give and go" on the playmaking side. It looks as though they want to play to her strength with the knowledge that Megan will be dangerous anywhere on the field.
BTW welcome Deep Purple I like the avatar we had a lengthy discussion on Popeye a while back. Get Geezer started on it and you will be in for a big surprise.

Re: Podcast with Lisa Sari
What I particularly noticed was Lisa's mention that Megan is more of a natural forward and that playing on the right gives her more freedom. That was my first take when I heard about the lineup with Charney in the middle and Megan on the right. She can become more of an attacking, scoring threat -- if Charney can handle the middle. I agree it will be interesting to see if the staff tries that again this weekend. Of course, the Amigas are back. I'd like to see them play, too.

Thanks Geez for the Popeye link. I had no idea that Popeye and his dad were featured in an earlier thread. Just think, I could have been Poopdeck Pappy rather than Deep Purple!

Re: Podcast with Lisa Sari
"Nineteen Nine?" Must be 99.
Geez - Do you know the year of that film clip? I think that's the oldest Popeye I've ever seen.
Old Pappy sure knew how to kick up his heels, didn't he? Popeye was a chip off the old shoulder, that's for sure!
By the way, Poopdeck Pappy, welcome to the forum. Geezer helped you find an incredible handle, and I'm jealous. Great avatar, too. Hope you post often. We need some fresh voices in here! Some new perspectives.

Re: Podcast with Lisa Sari
according to the entry on Google video,
located here
The cartoon dates to 1940, so I guess Poopdeck Pappy is now 167 years old, eclipsing my age by quite a bit.
According to Pappy's wiki, (hey! he's a famous guy!) the character was created in 1936.

If you want to go all Wiki on us. Poopdeck Pappy is either 99 or 85 depending on if it is a strip cartoon or the animation. I guess I'll link the history

here's the first episode of Goonland (1936), where Pappy first showed up.
I can't tell which goon was Alice, though.

Re: Podcast with Lisa Sari
What a classic Popeye clip!
I must have watched Popeye hundreds of times when I was a younger FANatic. But it wasn't until I had "grown up" before I really got Popeye.
His constant talking under his breath I didn't "get" until I was older. And it's genius because some of what he said under his breath you wouldn't want your children to understand!!!
So I figure it was very intelligently written to grab the kids with the action and the cartoon characters, but it was the parents who were laughing just as loud as the kids. (Or maybe even louder!)
Good job, Geezaldinho.

Re: Podcast with Lisa Sari
I like the cinema noir character of the original. Later, they colorized the originals and that completely changed their character.
I like the originals, but I'd venture that modern kids won't watch anything that's not in color. you be the judge.
Maybe it's just that the B&W version reminds me of when TV first came into our house.

Funny you mention that, Geezer. One of my nephews (he's three now) loves watching the old black and white Popeyes. Somehow we have this great DVD collection of a ton of old Popeye cartoons (and others too... Betty Boop I know for sure), and he's always asking to watch them.
So hey... at least one kid out there still likes the black and white!

Welcome, Poopdeck Pappy. Something about you seems vaguely familiar, as if I've known you in a past neighborhood, or maybe we have mutual friends, or maybe our kids know each other, or maybe we've seen some of the same soccer games. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it will come to me. See you in Section B today and we can discuss.

What do you think? Should I split this thread into two different threads? It kind of got off on a totally different (but no less interesting) topic.
