From ESPN's Graham Hays. A good overview. Check it out:

The bit relating to Portland:

The bit relating to Portland:
Playing for Cary: No. 1 Stanford vs. No. 2 Portland
Portland's biggest challenge early will come from within. Already down bodies after injuries to Rachael Rapinoe and Kendra Chandhoke, the Pilots will compete without Under-20 World Cup players Michelle Enyeart, Keelin Winters and Eli Reed. As the WCC champs adjust, Texas could prove their biggest external obstacle in the first three rounds. Until the floodgates opened against Missouri in the Big 12 tournament, Texas had allowed just three goals in six games against NCAA tournament qualifiers.
Stanford advances unless: Portland outplays the Cardinal. It's a game either team can take, without the other giving it away. For the Cardinal -- who could also face a dynamic offensive team in the third round if Oklahoma State advances -- valuing possession is critical. Oklahoma State isn't used to playing without the ball, and while Portland has more experience against other top-tier teams, it may not have the bodies left to chase the ball.

"Stanford advances unless: Portland outplays the Cardinal"
I'm not as smart as Fire Joe Morgan's Ken Tremendous, so I'll leave this alone.
Nice article, though. How cool is it to see women's college soccer covered like this on ESPN?

Ha ha... YES to the FJM reference.
That's been one of my favorite sites for years now.
Did you know that Ken Tremendous is actually a writer and producer for The Office? Crazy!

Now that he revealed his real name, yes.
I still like to think of him as a drone in Fremulon Insurance's Partridge, Kansas office.

Re: Nice Summary of Tournament
But now that Joe Morgan's contract isn't going to be renewed, what happens to the blog?? I just hope they direct their ire toward dullards like Reggie Miller and Jon Barry.... Or Dave Sims the new alleged Neihaus replacement for the Mariners (if you ever listen to him... good lord, easily the worst/most annoying lead announcer in the majors not named Joe Morgan...)

Don't worry, it hasn't been all about Joe in the time I've been reading it. The writers take columns from all sorts of sportswriters (Woody Page and Bill Plaschke are among the worst offenders) and skewer them.
Mainly the Joe bashing happens when he does his weekly online chat.

Re: Nice Summary of Tournament
ummmm...They can rename it Fire Tim McCarver. I could argue that Buck-McCarver is worse than Miller-Morgan.

A sad, sad day
I learned through Unprofessional Foul (unprofessionalfoul.blogspot.com) that the authors of Fire Joe Morgan have decided to end the blog:
Post #1377: The Relatively Short Goodbye
Hello, everyone.
After 21 years, and almost 40 million posts (we'll have to check those numbers, but it's something like that), we have decided to bring FJM to an end.
Although we have not lost our borderline-sociopathic joy for meticulously criticizing bad sports journalism, the realities of our professional and personal lives make FJM a time/work luxury we can no longer afford....
Farewell, gentleman. You will not be forgotten. And now I have to change my signature line.
