Re: Dave Libbey
What I love is that three different WCC boards all have threads up right now complaining about Libbey. I'm going to cut/paste a response from Dons Central from the USF board:

I totally agree. He's actually not a terrible ref... he's just extremely vain and loves being the center of attention. If he didn't do his whole act of getting his TV face time, he would probably be pretty good.
He is not a bad ref. At least for most of the game.
WCC teams like seeing him when they are the visitor, because they know he goes out of his way to not "home" a team.
Where he is terrible is his stare down with anyone after he calls a foul on them, almost challenging them to question the call.
And, in the final couple minutes when he decides to take over the show.
But, for 38 minutes of a game as the road team, especially one that does not mind putting your head down and not questioning the call, he is just fine.

Oh dear lord... you MUST read this article:

"Big Game Dave"??? Seriously?
And he is the Dean of Students at a performing arts school? Somehow that makes sense... he loves the attention of the stage.

Re: Dave Libbey
One word: DRAMA!
I have to agree with the comment from the USF board... for 38 minutes, he is fine.... and yes, he just stares at the player after he calls the foul, waiting for a response.... a bit of a power trip going on there, too?
At the SCU game, Libbey called a foul on a SCU player right in front of the UP bench, and the player kind of threw up his hands and said "Are you kidding me?!" And then Libbey, staring right at him the whole time, leans toward the SCU guy and quipped back intensely with "No I'm not kidding!!!"

Re: Dave Libbey
Indeed... I can just picture him practicing his calls in front of the mirror...

Re: Dave Libbey
Practicing signals in front of a mirror is helpful. Practicing your snappy comebacks in front of a mirror not so much.

One positive I can give his officiating- He gives other bad officials a good name. Any excuse for his game behavior is .

Here are a few:
"I love you man. Yo' the greatest."--Caramello.
"Wanna have a tea party?"--Libbey.
"Nice deodorant."--Caramello.
"I'll make it up to you."--Libbey.

I was thinking more along the lines of:
"Hey guys, you're right! You *can* hear the ocean in there!"
