Dave Libbey, new coordinator of officials for WCC, visited with staff and team before scrimmage today. Love his passion and expertise.

Specifically, Mulkey made disparaging comments about the officials during the postgame press conference following Baylor’s regional semifinal loss to Louisville on March 31 at the Oklahoma City Regional. The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee noted this is the second misconduct act by Mulkey during the past three championships and believes a more stringent penalty is appropriate to prevent these actions from continuing. She also received a public reprimand for comments to the media following the 2011 championship.

“I was my father’s all-American boy,” Mulkey said. “He was a great dad. If I can be half the mother he was as a father when I was growing up, my kids will be good.”

Mulkey and her father haven’t spoken in 25 years.

The daughter felt betrayed when her father and mother divorced. Daughter invited father and his new wife to her 1987 wedding to Randy Robertson. There was a disagreement where the new wife would sit during the ceremony. The bride was determined that it wouldn’t be with the wedding party.

Father didn’t attend the wedding. A final plea, a registered letter written and sent by Robertson didn’t solicit a response. Kim Mulkey walked down the aisle alone.

Grandfather has never met his grandchildren.

“I had no control of the situation when he chose to break up our family,” Mulkey said. “But I could control my wedding day. It was my day. He should have respected my wishes. He should have been there for me.”
