All-WCC Team Empty All-WCC Team

Post by Stonehouse Tue Feb 17, 2009 12:41 am

Just randomly thought about this tonight... what will the All-WCC team look like this year? I'm thinking that Nik Raivio and TJ Campbell deserve First Team honors and TJ definitely deserves the Newcomer of the Year. I think it will shake down something like this:

First Team
Bouldin
Heytvelt
Daye
Pargo/Mills
Simpson
Samhan
Bryant
Lowhorn
Raivio
Campbell
(Not sure if they'll put Mills on 1st team... maybe if he plays in the final weekend. Pargo doesn't really deserve it.)

POY: Bouldin, though Bryant deserves it, just like last season. Maybe co-MVP with those two.
DPOY: Bryant
NOY: Campbell (Vernon Teel and Keion Bell score more, but LMU has only 1 WCC win and Pep... well, Pep is playing stronger lately. It's possible Bell could get this.)

Honorable Mention: Foster, Teel, Bell, Pomare, Stohl/Pargo (if they do put Mills 1st team, Pargo will land here.)

Freshman Team: Foster, Bell, Rahon, DuBois, Young.

Don't really know why I felt like working that out, but I really, really hope that TJ Campbell gets the love he deserves. Raivio is a given, but I would hate to see a guy like Pargo, who has been pretty underwhelming especially in WCC play, make it onto the first team over Campbell.

TJ will get it. neither of the other players has made the impact on their teams that TJ has for Portland.

He'll make first team, too.

I'll send my head through a wall if Few gets coach of the year again.

I think if/when we end up with second place, Rev gets COY.

Otherwise, who? if we get 3rd, does Rev still get it? Bennett? Few?

Forgot about COY... it's got to either be Few or Reveno. Maybe Bennett could have gotten it if they won the WCC, but if they finish second... eh. That's what was expected of them. If the Zags go undefeated, maybe he'll get it over Rev, but really... how could the other coaches in the conference not give it to Reveno?

the Zags were expected to be first, St. Mary's second. We were expected to be what? seventh? Sixth? And a winning season, especially in conference, was doubtful.

I don't see how Rev doesn't wrestle it away from Few.

2008-09 WCC Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll
(First-Place Votes In Parentheses)

1. Gonzaga (5) 46
2. Saint Mary's (2) 44
3. San Diego (1) 39
4. Santa Clara 30
5. San Francisco 23
6. Portland 19
7. Loyola Marymount 12
8. Pepperdine 11

I'd say finishing 3-4 places higher than expected definitely warrants at least a few votes....

And for comparison's sake, here's the pre-season team....

2008-09 WCC Men's Pre-season All-Conference Team

Matt Bouldin, GON
John Bryant, SCU
Austin Daye, GON
Brandon Johnson, USD
Dior Lowhorn, USF
Patrick Mills, SMC
Jeremy Pargo, GON
Gyno Pomare, USD
Omar Samhan, SMC
Diamon Simpson, SMC

Who do you take off?? Johnson obviously, and I'd agree that Pomare and Pargo have definitley not played as well as anticipated. Mills was dominant until he got hurt, I'm not sure whether or not the injury will wipe out that performance...

Nik replaces Johnson cleanly, and if the team does wind up in 2nd, I'd say you HAVE to have at least 2 all conference players... Fingers crossed for TJ!!

Is the WCC the only conference that has 10 first teamers? For some reason that still bugs me, I wish they would do five and five plus an HM.

But it is kind of nice to talk about the possibility of two first teamers.

Well, You could argue that no team plays with 5 players.

The NCAA allows 13 scholarships for the sport in D1, so it could be argued that's the number that comprises a team.

Peeyew! Ive corrected your spelling. What an underachieving coach Embarassed with so much TALENT. Bottom line it's the coach's fault.... no team unity,a bunch of individual player's who are softee's. Except for Bouldin and their guy down the bench Brown.

Reveno-COY,Nik-1st Team,TJ-Newcomer of year,close to 1st team. cheers cheers cheers .

Pargo is playing so bad this year I almost feel sorry for the kid.

P.S.- Kramer-highest GPA of WCC BB Player's this fall, Robin all WCC academics too, Ethan-?. Not that it matters, but they are STUDENT-athletes and start for their respective schools. Once again Portland carry's on that tradition for Pilot athletic's.

Ok,Ok, so Gonzaga will probably go undefeated. Then Pew will have a strong case for COY,unless the Pilot's finish a strong 2nd for REVENO.

I can't be the only person who would actually like to see Rev wrestle Few for coach of the year.

Two coaches enter . . . one coach leaves. Shocked

How about the story Montgomery,or someone told about his day's as a player at Stanford. The California Bear mascot was in Stanford's way during warmups so Rev. just threw a basketball at him full force. Needless to say it forced the mascot to get out of the way. lol!

I could see most of his current players doing the same thing if necessary. How about that little "love touch" elbow little Ito gave Diamond Simpson just before half time at the last St. Mary's games.

Rev. by submission, REAR NAKED CHOKE HOLD. Two coach's in one leaves the cage upright.
