Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
Nice article. I agree that it's a good sign that Raivio is starting to heat up again. I hate to focus on a one-on-one match-up more than anything in a team game, but, the TJ vs. Mills match-up is going to be just huge. I don't think TJ has to win the match-up, but, if he holds his own, I think we've got a great shot to win. Watching those guys match up will be a real treat. It will rank up there with TJ vs. Isaiah Thomas or TJ vs. Pargo for me. I can't wait for that...

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
I am really looking forward to tonight's/ tomorrow morning's game. I think I might have to take a nap so I don't start nodding off. At least I don't have to work tomorrow...
I would like to see Patty Mills back to full strength...and TJ outplay him!

ugh that 11:30 start time with daylight savings thrown in there can't be good for optimal Pilot viewing...

Yeah, I think if this were not the time-switch weekend there would be a lot more East Coast viewers for the game...yeah right. I will probably be one of 14.

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
According to the ESPN Insider simulation thingy, the Pilots have a 36.6% chance of winning this game. If I were in Vegas, I would take those odds and roll that victory money over and head to a nice buffet tomorrow to fatten myself up to prepare for another Pilot victory.

In fact, I just looked a little closer, and they predict a score of 69-64 SMC. Kenpom has a very similar prediction of 70-65. I would love to prove both of them wrong.

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
About a minute to go in the 1st half, down by 3.
A few observations so far -
1. We have a great opportunity to win this game.
2. I don't know how many turnovers we have so far, but it's way to many. We should be up by 10-12 points.
3. Kramer has really forced some bad shots fading away inside.
4. We've gone 5 1/2 minutes without a score and we're still right there.
5. Paddy hasn't been much of a factor - so far...
Stohl just hit a three to tie it going into the halftime break. I think Jared needs to play big minutes in the 2nd half. We'll need his shooting and he appears to be on tonight.
The ESPN analyst just noted that we turned it over 10 times int he 1st half and "should have a nice cushion" right now. He also mentioned the poor shot selection at times.
If we can cut down on the turnovers and not force bad shots, we should be in very good shape - provided Paddy doesn't go ballistic in the 2nd half.
GO Pilots!!!
I don't even want to think about Gonzaga right now, but they do look like they are playing scary good right now. They are peaking at the right time - in March.

Can I just say that Waterford has stepped it up BIG this game... Especially since he's had to go 1 on 1 with one of the best PGs in the country

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
That St. Mary's possession with about 3 1/2 left was a back breaker. Kramer gets a steal, a scramble ensues, then St. Mary's hits a three to extend the lead to 9...We come up with that ball, there's a chance to cut it to 4, or even three...

Oh well. At least our intrepid PN members can scalp their Monday night tickets to the Zaggettes and reinvest at the Blackjack table! Then the weekend won't be a total loss!

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
That was a good effort by the guys tonight. I thought they looked pretty good, other than a few bad turnovers/foul (calls)/free throws. St. Mary's hit some tough shots against some tough defense. Mills is a pretty good player. I just wish the final scores of our BIG games would end a little closer. Most people will just look at a box and not think we gave the fight that we did. St. Mary's definitely had to work for that one.
Good luck to SMC tomorrow. Beat the Zags!

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
This game was, despite the loss, inspiring.
Eric HAS stepped up big, you said it DTR.
Big John's little jumper was good to see.
Overall, I'm excited for any postseason play we might get and NEXT YEAR!
I'm excited to see the work we can do over the summer to improve even more. If this year's improvement is anything like last year's, then we will be dangerous next year!

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
If we could have just built a cushion in that first half, but those dang turnovers!!
That really has to be a point of emphasis for Rev to work on with tthe guys from a team standpoint, over the off-season.
This season definitely exceeded expectations. we have everyone coming back next year, but the existing guys will all have to improve in the off-season to challenge St Marys and GU next year. They will both be as tough or tougher next year.
Next year, I'm going to Vegas come hell or highwater!! Hopefully I'll be able to meet some of you feloow PN posters next year.
Boy, did Larry Williams make a good hire in Eric Reveno or what? With some quality non-conference wins and WCC road wins next year, could this team challenge for an NCAA at large bid with a 2nd place finish, like St Marys is doing this year?
Raivio, TJ, Smeulders, Ito, and Niedermeyer will all be in their final years in 2009-010, so Rev's 2010 recruiting class will be an important one to keep this train moving forward. Given that Raivio and TJC are such key players and were able to contribute right away in a big way, Rev may need to look for one or possibly two JC guys, or get a couple of super diaper-dandy frosh who can come in right away and play. We will still have Kramer, Big John, Sikma, Porter, Stohl, Waterford, Mitrovic, and Hannibal in 2010-11, so the future looks bright with a couple more strong recruiting classes in 2010 and 2011. As someone noted earlier (Mesa, I think), the Raivio's and TJC's of the world don't grow on trees, so Rev is going to have to re-load in recruiting as well as continue to develop the existing roster to keep pace with the upper echelon teams in the conference like St Marys and GU.

Re: St. Mary's Gameday Link
2 things that hurt us tonight:
Obviously, TJ's foul trouble (and subsequent loss of playing time).
Also, TJ and Eric combined for 4 assists (TJ had only 1). I'd like for that to be a higher number. When we effectively pass the ball and search for QUALITY shots, we do well.
