New Head of Officials for WCC?
Just saw this on Dons Central... WOW!
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/west/genrel/auto_pdf/mbbofficialcoordinator.pdf
Ken Ditty (who happens to be the father of one of the WCC's finest, Jack Ditty) apparantly is gone after heading up the WCC officials for years and years.
Now the real question... did he retire or did he "retire"?

That would be worth the price of admission.

Re: New Head of Officials for WCC?
The WCC better start telling ESPN, and whatever other networks will be broadcasting their games, they should add about 15 minutes to the expected broadcast time of each game.
I don’t know if there’s been another change of referee leadership in the WCC, or if this is an NCAA thing, but apparently the emphasis from referees this year will be hand-checking by defenders. In tonight's game between UP and Concordia-Irvine there were 60 total fouls, and I swear, half of them were what were once called “ticky-tacky,” but are now considered serious enough to stop the clock and the flow of the game to call a foul. In the first half, the Pilots were already in the double-bonus with more than 13 minutes remaining in the half.
Sixty!! That’s ridiculous! I’m sure the guys will eventually adapt to this new interpretation of the rules, but it’s going to cause a lot of close games to be in the hands of the refs instead of the players for months to come.

The whole NCAA will have longer games. Hand checking and body bumping are out.
No arm bars, no two hand on, no repeated slapping at the ball, no body bumping on a driving player. Coaches are wondering how they will have enough players to finish a game.

We saw 60 fouls tonight, about half were hand checks
60!
A more sanguine view is scoring will go up.

Teams will spend lots of time at the line. I hope the lads have been shooting their free throws...

Ha-ha, I loved Colorado State’s Larry Eustachy’s statement:
If I want to go see a Canadian, it will be Riley Barker…..not Celine Dion!!"What are we thinking, trying to put players in situations where they can be eliminated even more?" If you pay to go see Celine Dion, she's not going to be fouled out at intermission.”

Re: New Head of Officials for WCC?
The good news, I guess, is the 24 turnovers didn't matter so much.

Did the live stats change on the website? I didn't recall they were that extensive before.

Re: New Head of Officials for WCC?
As evidenced by today's game, the rule change is going to place a HUGE premium on two characteristics of a college basketball team: depth (due to lots of players in foul trouble) and free-throw shooting.

Re: New Head of Officials for WCC?
The new interpretation of hand-checking actually brings it more in line with how they ref in the NBA. The pro players have adjusted... I think college players will too.
But will be a rough adjustment period for sure. Yesterday was ugly.
Still, I think in the long run it will lead to a more fluid and attractive game. The defensive contact has gotten progressively worse over the past several years, to the point that every game felt like a slugfest sometimes, especially on the perimeter.

Haha, yeah. I think players like Delevadova moved on just in time.
I don't see anywhere where arm bars by the dribbler will be policed, though
