As for the PN t-shirt I think Pilot Nut has the logo already done. Just use the same alphabet to to spell PilotNation
That would be pretty cool BUT we may run into a problem with the font being a copyright of both the university and nike... And by them letting us use the font it could show endorsement, which could potentially get them in trouble (especially when we get into our in depth recruiting discussions and whatnot). I know it's stupid, but the whole reason they abandoned the pinwheel was because it wasn't copywritten, the new font is... if we sell the shirts it could potentially wrangle up some legal issues (even if they are just being sold at cost...)
I'm not sure if we can ask the university, haha but again that could be a lot more trouble than it's worth...
This is an unofficial underground site. I am sure the University could easily disavow anything that happens on here. Best way to get a no answer on permission to use the P logo is ask permission. I know the p logo is copyrighted but I doubt they copyrighted the whole font. I could be wrong but who cares really. Think practically and not completely legalistic ( I am a lawyer btw) would the university bother with lawsuits against its own supporters for wearing an unofficial shirt?

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
DTR, I am not sure how Nike would be involved unless we are committed to using a Nike swoosh shirt. Under Armor and Champion both have pilot copyrighted logos on them. Personally I like the Under Armor stuff. I think the fabric is better quality than what Nike uses.
Having said that I will retract my earlier statement about ignoring the University in all this.

They have a site all about use of the athletic brand and it would just be easier to get permission from The Marketing and Communications Department and ask for a template. I think they might be more cooperative than I originally thought.

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
I just got the scoop on who to contact if we want to use the university's branded logo or font anywhere on the shirt. Beth Connell in marketing. Otherwise we can come up with our own original stuff. Nobody owns the colors purple and white.

Haha, when we made the original PP shirts we used the pinwheel, we actually got a copy of the graphic from the Athletic Dept, they are typically a very good group to work with.

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
Thanks for the leg work, Auto. I already have the wheels in motion with the Marketing folks. I assume there will be some restrictions like not selling the shirts on campus, no profits are to be taken (see below--it will be a partial donation on my part), etc.
Stoney: Assume, for now, that we could use the logo and/or the new font.
The shirt design that pops into my head is pretty simple: Purple shirt, white print, with a P logo on the upper front of the shirt with the web addy below it, in a small or medium size font (and maybe a different color)... and then on the back the addy would be larger, running across the shoulder blades, and then some sort of tag line like "The unofficial home of the University of Portland Pilots" or "The #1 Source for University of Portland Athletics" in a smaller font and below it.
Maybe a logo of some sort on the sleeve...
I really want to balance style and marketing here... but I do want the web address to be prominant... (that's why I am willing to pay for the set up / screen fees at the printer, and then just pass on the shirt & printing costs on to the buyers...)
I am in the lowest percentile in terms of graphic design skills... I am sure most of you will come up with much better designs (although I am proud of my new avatar, thank you very much). More info to follow on submitting designs, ideas, etc... we will probably set up a poll or something on here...

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
If we do have to go the "unauthorized" route, does that mean we can include a logo of our favorite microbrew, or domestic if God forbid, you enjoy drinking that swill.
Also, can we make them jersey shirts, you know, with names and numbers on the back?
Lastly, mine is going to kick-ass...literally!!

hmmm, good question. We have some time here... the only real deadline i see is soccer season starting in August. I dont have final word yet on what we can do with the logos (but proceed with your designs assuming all is fair game), I also dont see having entries due in for consideration any time before June 1st. I will post more info here as I have it...

I like the idea of T-shirts or scarves...scarves for the Fall months and T-shirts for the road trip to Vegas... among other things.

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
Just threw this together... I like the baseball T-shirt look (3/4 sleeves) but that's probably not an option, I know. I'll put together several more alternatives at some point, when I'm not being all lazy.

Here are a few more... I'll put up some more "classic" looking ones tomorrow maybe.
Same as above but as a ringer:
MattyWizz's classic "Pilots Slip It In", with just a few changes:
A variation of the Pilots Slip It In:

A few more, more in line with what Pilot Nut had in mind. (Helps if you actually read other posts, apparently.)

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
Stonehouse I think you hit a home run with the latest purple tee. The only change i might suggest would be to arc the website name over the back of the shoulders like you might see a players name. Oh and maybe you could use the university shield on one of the arms.
Longsleeve version same as above just add hot rod flames from the wrists to the elbow. Also might want to read the University Marketing Department's rules about fonts, spacing and locations. (Assuming you get permission to use the P logo).

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
Those are sweet, Stonehouse. It would be cool to have some purple or white lettering stating some of our most amazing athletic accomplishments on the back of the T too. Things like this:
2 Time National Champions of Womens Soccer
30 WCC Championships--cross-country
etc...
And/or have some faded names of our most renowned athletes...
As long as it's possible to do that without making things look too busy on the T. Anyway, since we're just brainstorming, I thought I'd put that out there.

You could take an idea off the Women's National Soccer team and add a star for each NCAA championship. There are two for Portland Soccer any others?

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
I really like both Stonehouse's second batch of shirts (very much what I had in mind), and some sort of "hall of fame" or something on the back of the shirts... hmmm.
Keep up the brainstorming!
As for the "Slip it in" concept... I honestly think there is a market for a seperate shirt for that... I love it!

I prefer one of the last couple of selections.I like Autopilot's idea of adding something to the sleeve,as long as it is discreet and Pilot Athletic neutral

I've long thought we should put the University's shield and two stars on the soccer jerseys, like a "real" football team. That would be cool on the t-shirts.

I am a fan of printing something on the sleeve... the shield & stars maybe? Hmmm.
Or the new fancy "Pilots" font/logo...
I wish I had some design software to work with besides Windows Paint...
