So does this mean you are retroactively revoking me as Best Man at your wedding? That's cold, man... cold. I'll put your name on the back, how about that?
I like how this shield shirt came out... wasn't sure if it should say Portland Pilots along the bottom though... any thoughts on that? Should it say something else?
I'll make some other tweaks to the other ones too - I like the sleeve idea.
Apologies for the lack of crispness in some of these mock-ups... it's hard to make HQ stuff in Illustrator without original vectorized files.

OK... here are some with things on the sleeves. What do you guys think? Shield and logo? Just logo? Just shield? Stuff on both sides or just one side?

You know... thinking about the shield... why don't we make a special one for Pilot Nation? Here are a few ideas:

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
I love the purple one, Stoney... what do you think about introducing another color? I think the "P" logo looks cool when there is a thin outline around it, like this:
The body of the P could be white, outlined by the gold accent? or another color? Just a thought... I still struggle with the gold...
I'd vote for printing on 1 sleeve only. and what about just the "portland" or just the "pilots"...? I am sooo tired of every option on campus having that exact same "Portland Pilots" text/logo. Maybe since "pilot" is in the web address on front, just "portland" on the sleeve?
The academic shield: Its great, I like it on the seperate white shirt you made... but does it really belong on an Athletic web site t-shirt? I'm not sold yet.... (but you know, the large "shield/stars on the front" version would make yet another cool shirt, along with the "Pilots Slip It In" shirt, in the future Pilot Nation apparel catalog...!!)
Great work, Stonehouse... I am liking te options so far (and the bookstore could sure learn something from this process!!)

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
Hmmm... OK... let me tinker. I might need to get some digital artwork from the Athletic Department before I can do some of that stuff.
Actually, I'm glad you brought up the purple. I've been using a lighter color of the purple for most of the shirts, but I did use the actual real purple for this shirt, which is considerable darker:

What do people think?

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
i like the darker purple on the white, can you make a mockup with the dark purple on an all purple shirt??
Also, what if you put a smallish crest on the back of the shirt just below the neck?? It's a pretty common detail amongst pro soccer kits, why not for our PN shirt??

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
Stoney, I think to go with a crest you will probably have to use a new one. When I was a student worker in PR we had to approve all the logos/t-shirts and stuff like that for student groups and whatnot. When approval requests that came through mixed-and-matched logos or used athletics when it was for engineering dept., etc. they would get pretty mad.
So if we are trying to get approval from the University, I highly doubt your first design would pass. But if we are going the "unauthorized" route, I guess it wouldn't be a problem.
If we are going to do a crest, I think I would prefer a small one on the chest (left or right oriented) with some combination of "Portland" "Pilots" written across the chest. Then put pilotnation.net on the back. We HAVE to promote the site. (Or we could put pilotnation.com, which I occasionally type in).

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
A lot of cool ideas there Stonehouse. I think my favorite is the purple on white with the shield on one sleeve and Portland Pilots on the other. The white on purple is also very cool though. I'd buy either one...
Are people open to putting Pilot athletic achievements on the backs of the Ts? To me that would be a sweet way to exhibit Purple Pride.

As long as the achievements are done discreetly and tactfully .

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
I'm a 'no' vote. I prefer a simple design, something timeless and classic. Of course, I'll still buy a shirt no matter. (Did I just minimize my vote? )
The shirt should be something that identifies us specifically as as a member of PilotNation. Too much info may dilute that message.

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
I will just throw out that this isnt the only time we will make shirts... assuming all goes well, I see this being an annual-ish event!
After the 2009-10 year, there may very well be more to add to the list...

Haha I'm with 7587 in that if there will be recognition, i would prefer it be discreet... And even if, how do you distinguish "shirt worthy" accomplishments?? Nat. Championships?? Conference dominance?? Individual standouts??
Haha all I care about is getting one out before soccer season, haha and then maybe a custom one for those who want to wear it down in Vegas next year...

Yeah, that was my problem when thinking about it. If we wanted to make it soccer specific that would be a lot easier... 2 national champions, 12 Final Fours, 13 World Cup winners, 25 Olympians, 30 WCC championships, 50 All-Americans, etc. (or whatever those numbers actually are).
A more general UP athletics one would be a bit more difficult... I guess we could highlight all the WCC championships, but other than that... any ideas?
Also, who wants to do the research?

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
If you were making one strictly for soccer, adding the accomplishments might be cool. But if we were to do it for all sports, it might kind of be embarrassing.
I am with 7587 on the "minimized" no vote though. So I guess together that makes 1 vote for the negative. I would prefer to keep it simple, stupid.

How about someone just puts up a poll? I'm too lazy to figure out how to do it.

I'd say simple is better. Trying to fit on all the sports will be way too busy.

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
I didn't want to mention this initially, but I have had one of those crowded shirts before. It hit the bottom drawer pretty QUICK. I've got enough stuff spinning through my head that a SIMPLE ,, original , tastefull design is about all I can handle....

Re: Pilot Nation T-shirts...?
Thanks for the input everyone. I'll tell you what I'll do... I'll throw together a specialized one for soccer (maybe using one those shields) that lists a few things on the back and I'll make a "cleaner" general one for Pilot Nation. I know some of the fans here are mainly interested in soccer only (just look at the post numbers for the different categories!) so that might be a nice compromise. Not sure if we can do two runs of shirts, but maybe we can do a general one now and a soccer one as August approaches.

I appreciate that. I'll buy one of each anyway (if we do two runs of shirts...)
