Will Kipchumba take away Rupp's 5,000 m record by the time he graduates?

Wouldn't it be sweet to see him take away Rupp's 5,000 m record during his time at UP?

I want to see a Pilot in the record books... From his past time, he could have finished in 4th place at the March meet if he came with his A game. Of course running indoors vs. outdoors can sometimes make a difference too.

Though yesterday's finish was 12th, he's had better times in the past:

Rupp is really on another level. Also remember he's a year older than most other seniors. Hard to say as Alfred has much more time to go in his UP career, but I'm doubtful he'll compete directly with Rupp anytime soon.

I respectfully disagree, coldsmoke. It took Rupp a long time to develop. You are right that having that extra year is helpful. But, when you look at the fact that Kipchumba is a sophmore and he's already got a solid time, it's encouraging:

I'm talking about the 13:45.56 That's not really a huge difference from Rupp's 13:41.45 . The chasm between Rupp's time and the WR at 12:49 is far, far greater in my opinion. But, hey, I drink the Kool Aid.

Rupp ran 13:37 as a senior in HS. His PR is now 13:18. He may have only run 14 flat at NCAAs, but he was running to win not PR. Probably why he sat back, then clocked his last mile in 4 flat to win.

Yeah, you're right about that mattywizz. I'm likely drinking too much lemonaide and it's probably spiked with EtOH, but, hey we all do that here, don't we? That's what makes life fun. If nothing else, it will drum up some excitement for the future of the team. I'm excited about this group.
