Alex Kirk Named Director of Basketball Operations

PORTLAND, Ore. --- Alex Kirk has been named the director of basketball operations for the University of Portland, head coach Eric Reveno announced on Wednesday. Kirk spent the last two seasons as the team’s head manager and graduated from Portland in May of 2009 with a degree in organizational communication.

Kirk will continue many of the primary responsibilities he had as the team’s manager, including oversight of the day-to-day core operations of the men’s basketball office. He will oversee a staff of student volunteer managers, take over film exchange duties, assist with on-campus recruiting visits, provide academic support, and continue to serve as the assistant director of the Pilot Summer Basketball Camps. Kirk, the program’s video operations manager and self-scout coordinator, will also work directly with Coach Reveno in implementing the team’s video performance analysis program.

Prior to arriving at Portland, Kirk played at Washington State University for legendary head coach Dick Bennett as part of his first recruiting class with the Cougars. His collegiate career was curtailed after only one season due to serious knee injuries.

A basketball standout at Prosser (Wash.) High School, Kirk was named All-Mid Valley League and team MVP for three years. He averaged 16.8 ppg in 2003. Kirk spent a post-graduate year at The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., earning All-Mid-Atlantic Prep League status after averaging 7.8 assists per game with 3.8 assist/turnover ratio.
