Oregon State Match
I did not realize Oregon State was doing as well at they are. They defeated 21st ranked Denver this weekend and are now sitting at 7-1-0 on the season. Here is the article from the Denver match.

It looks like the most difficult part of their schedule however starts Friday...

Re: Oregon State Match
They have been playing very well after their opening loss to PSU.
I haven't seen them, but with Linus Rhode and Michelle Voiland coaching them, I expect a good team. I'm sure they think that knocking off UP would be a big feather in their cap.
Saturday night should be a great turnout.

Re: Oregon State Match
"Not to___________ or anything". I love that phrase and all its variations.
That's sort of like "I wouldn't mention what a duffus you are" , or "I could point out how cruel it is to make fun of old people and you'll be there soon enough -- but I won't"
But I wouldn't do either of those things, even if they were true.. and I didn't say they were.

OSU may be a tough competitor on Friday eve. They appear to have dominated #21 Denver, taking over 20 shots to Denver's 6.

Are you ready for the OSU RPI report? They are ranked #16 or 17 in this week's rankings, depending on whether you're looking at the adjusted (16) or unadjusted (17) RPI. Ahead of Oregon, Washington, and Washington State!
Re: Oregon State Match
Fine. Bring it on. I'm glad we get to watch a game against a ranked opponenent. Good opportunity to see what the current state of affairs is after this weekend's games.
Very happy that the team bounced back with a strong win, but not sure that whomping SMU tells us much.

Well, except that every team in the pac10 has a similarly brutal schedule once conference season starts.
Just think how Arizona is feeling right now. Every conference team it faces is a potential tournament team right now. If the rankings were based on games to date, they'd all probably be in.

Re: Oregon State Match
I agree that the Pac 10 teams are playing brutal schedules, simply by virtue of being in the Pac 10. But, here are the RPI ranks of the teams the Pilots have on their schedule this year. Based on the current ranks, this is beginning to look overall like a very tough schedule with only two "no brainer" games, SMU and Montana:
Santa Clara: 10
Cal: 16
Oregon State: 17!
Texas A&M: 19
Washington: 22
Oregon: 23
Washington State: 27
Miami: 39
Colorado College: 43
San Diego: 47
Pepperdine: 50
Illinois: 65
St. Mary's: 72
San Francisco: 81
Columbia: 85
Gonzaga: 105
Loyola Marymount: 119
SMU: 167
Montana: 197

Re: Oregon State Match
And here's a story from the Daily Barometer on their season so far.
http://barometer.orst.edu/news/2009/09/23/Sports/Oregon.State.Streaks.Into.Pac10.Play-3780291.shtml
It's interesting that they mention their last win against us was 1994. I think that game was the game Shannon Macmillan missed when she had a pin inserted in her foot.
We went 16-6 that year and made it to the semi's. Our losses were to Notre Dame (twice) UNC, Connecticut, Hartford(?), and OSU.
This year, the Beav's have just come off a convincing will over Denver (5-3-1), who have beaten a couple of good teams and tied Illinois this year and who handed Kansas their only loss.
The Beavers have also beaten UC Riverside (5-2-2), Northridge (4-5-0), Nevada (3-6-0), Seattle (5-5-1), LMU (5-3-1), and Dartmouth (3-3-0)
It sounds like Linus has the team playing well and they shouldn't be taken lightly.

Re: Oregon State Match
Seems like that game in 1994 was the time when Shannon was on a break-away and was winding up for a shot when the ref whistled the 1st half over. Clive was upset.

Re: Oregon State Match
The ref doesn't whistle the half over in the NCAA - that's done by the official clock as kept by the timekeeper. It's not a judgement thing like in a FIFA match.
Could that be why Clive was upset?

Isn't that a more recent change though? Back then, wasn't the time kept by the ref?
Does anyone care to explain why the NCAA is the one level that keeps the official time on the scoreboard as opposed to the ref's watch? I always thought that was odd.
