One Important Quote from Few after GU-MVSU
I heard a rumor that the Pilots can shoot from the perimiter...Few said MVSU's speed and perimeter shooting kept them in the game for awhile.
Side Note: GU's 92-74 win was not nearly as convincing as WSU's 94-66 win the night before over MVSU. GU is jumping right into things on Tuesday @ Michigan State.

Re: One Important Quote from Few after GU-MVSU
Elias Harris (?) looked very good in the paint, Sacre mediocre, I liked the way their frosh Kelly O. plays , hes fun to watch. Bench played well, and they did'nt really need Bouldin or anybody else to step up against a lowly opponent playing 1500 miles from home.
I wonder will that german kid be 25 or 26 and should be out of college and still playing for them. Kinda a rerun on their kid from Phoenix College last year. Bol Kong(he's been a real bust so far) is another elderly "Sophomore". Few is really starting a trend up there that is very interesting to say the least . I guess he's starting to feel the recruiting pressure from REV, RB, RW, Kerry Keating, and of course missing out on those Seattle HS kid's to Romar at Washington kills his recruiting Top-Notch USA kids.

Some great points -- you've said it all. Missing out on the Seattle kids to Romar's Washington has been horrible. After all, since GU's consecutive NCAA tourney streak began in '98/'99, there's been a grand total of 1 Seattle kid who's played for GU (Erroll Knight). REV, RB, RW, and Kerry Keating have had an impact as well.
The German kid (Harris) is 20. Not sure how you think he'll be a Zag at 26. And great insight on Bol Kong. You're right on the money with everything in your post.

No, they aren't. But even if they were in Seattle, that still wouldn't help with the logic of the point that Romar is hurting GU's recruiting. Just think of all those Zags from Seattle (or the Seattle area). The greater Portland area has been far more fruitful for Gonzaga than the Seattle area.
This is a pretty interesting thread. 20 plus 4 equals 26? Sacre (17 points - 6 of 9 from the field -- 9 rebounds and 3 blocks) was "mediocre" last night? REV, RB, RW, etc. are hurting GU's recruiting?
As for trends -- yes, Few has a few trends going. And I'm glad he does.

Re: One Important Quote from Few after GU-MVSU
...see navigator I knew I could get one of their nut jobs to stop lurking. All you have to do is post one slight critism of their little redheaded stepchild pewey and they take the bait.
If few would sit down and stop "whinning" during the Zaggette games they would be beareable. I will say though, I have always been impressed with his asst. (as far as I can tell he is the one who does the actuall strategizing and teaching with the team),but, I guess that just goes to show pew is a good at delagating and has a Healthy Ego who enjoys his "facetime" with the media and pundits (his Lapdog Andy Katz) and in their words "his fishing rod" ..... While his asst.'s recruit, coach the team ,do his laundry, mow his lawn, shovel his driveway, do his kid's homework with them, etc,etc.....
Hey GoZags, GRant's claim to fame is he went to my HS 25 yrs to late. Except the BB team we had that year sent 3 guys to major college, 2 to Ohio State, 1 to UNI who was IA POY . Not 2, one to a mid major(Zaggettes), and one to Larry Byrds alma mater.
Gonzaga Sucks, except Grant Gibbs of course .
Go back and have some final four Koolaid,,you will need it for substance come the matchup at the Chiles Center!!!!
Keep winning it just improves our RPI,....sic...

Huh...interesting. No offense, but, I never thought that Gonzaga had a chance at Abdul Gaddy (who is actually a Tacoma kid who went from Arizona to UW). A lot of UW's biggest recent recruits were from the Tacoma area such as Gaddy and Thomas. I'm not sure if that was who you were referring to or not. But, in my opinion, Few has always been better at recruiting the gems at the perimeter parts and rural areas of the state of Washington and guys out of state. I don't want to compare Few to Rev, but, to be a great WCC coach you have to be able to take diamonds in the rough and develop those players in a system. The best athletes with the scores of 95 or above at max preps and the other scouting websites still chose the Pac-10 over the WCC most of the time. In my opinion, it's necessary for mid-majors to go abroad or look at junior college prospects in order to compete sometimes. Both Rev and Few have done that.

Re: One Important Quote from Few after GU-MVSU
Let me repeat this ONE MORE TIME.... I have no problem with the Zag's ,coaching staff(I just think Few is way over-rated and Monson doesnt get ANY credit for turning that program around, especially by any fan newer that 2000(bandwaggoners)- I especially admire the asst. coach's. That leaves one entity of the equation that I don't show or give much respect to.. The "bandwagon" or Idiotic Idolical worshipping zag fans that have little to no knowledge of the game, and are into placing player's in some kind of shrine if they are on the team. Yet, there are steady players like Matt Bouldin who get the brunt of the critism from them win or lose. Stephen Gray, arguably their most talented athlete, has also been dragged over the coals by fair weather fans. Finally , I am not lumping all Zag fans in that category, and dare I say this have found one or two to be fun ,intelligent, knowledgeble, people to correspond with .Sorry RJ I had to say it.
I believe smaller schools like UP etc....have a hard time with recruiting until they show the stability that Gonzaga has over the last 10 yrs. Trying to compare WCC recruiting to Pac Ten recruiting is always a stretch.....It's hard to compete with those state school recruiting budgets, amenities, etc.... provided by Big time Football profits, and Multiply decades of NCAA payoffs from tourney play.
Once again I guess we will have more answers about the season come WCC play in January.
Thanks for your input GoZags , and glad to have you post. Many fans just like to try to sweep UP under the carpet and try to pretend the Pilot's didn't place 3rd in the WCC, 19 wins, tourney bid (albeit weak one I know). I personally am pretty impressed by Rev. his slow but steady growth of the program, his 2010 recruiting class. But, this is the year that they need to show it's not a fluke, 20 wins , top 3 in WCC, and NIT or NCAA bid to complete the season.
Just the fact that UP fans get to discuss this less than 1 1/2 years removed from a 9 win 22 loss season is pretty impressive in my book

Re: One Important Quote from Few after GU-MVSU
It'd be nice if a local rivalry emerged between UP and GU. It doesn't seem that long ago that the Pilots took 2 out of 3 against the Zags -- the 2nd win over GU denying Gonzaga "back to back" NCAA tourney bids. I seem to recall UP also beating one of their local Pac 10 rivals that season - '95/'96 (and losing a close game to UDub).
While Monson deserves acknowledgment -- it was Fitz that "built" the program (my opinion) -- and for two seasons Monson (with help from his Associate Head Coach -- Few) allowed the program to dream, schedule big, and win big games. Just like Few (with help from his assistant coaches) has continued to dream, continued to schedule big, and win big games.
Portland should be fun to follow this season. A close friend/associate of mine coached a couple of the kids in the summer as they were growing up (Stohl, Sikma). I've also got other friends/associates with UP hoops roots.
Again, should be a fun year -- and hopefully there'll be room for two or three WCC schools in the dance.

Re: One Important Quote from Few after GU-MVSU
Your right about Fitz who did the yeomen of work up there. I always go blank when thinking about that subject and focus on Monson. (I guess it's because I feel bad for him the way the Golden Gophers head job panned out for him).
BTW my favorite all-time WCC player is a Zag. Which I try not to talk about on this board because it doesn't go over to well .
I hope the games are competive this year,I think the best 1st half of a game I saw last year was the ESPN game at the Chiles with UP and Gonzaga keeping it very exciting.
But, first we must, must, beat the Huskies and pick up a win or two in the Anaheim Classic to even get to that "exciting" game.
Good luck to Grant Gibbs and show them what a Linn-Mar Lion can do this year.
