Re: BEAT UCLA
Santa Clara - done; San Diego - done; Denver - done; UW - done; Virginia Tech - done;
UCLA - let's do it; then Stanford; then UNC.
It was 8 games for the title: 5 down; 3 to go.

Re: BEAT UCLA
Right on, Harry!
1st up: BEAT UCLA!!!
Dani is saying that the Pilots are not only peaking, they are improving! I watched on TV last night, and when they move the ball from one side of the field to the other, it is just mesmerizing.....
Improving? Kendall Johnson, for instance. What a warrior, complete with incredible speed and quickness, as well as real toughness.
The mark of a great team is losing Michelle Enyeart, then having other players step up: Kendall, Kendra, Hallie, Taylor, and on and on.

Agreed. I want a bigger present...although I'm not convinced UNC would necessarily be our opponent in the championship.
Hey, did anyone else hear that our team set a goals scoring record in yesterday's game?? The old record was 79 goals in a season by the second national championship team, and this years' team now has 82 goals. That's a very good sign!

Re: BEAT UCLA
this is the most confident i have felt about facing ucla.
with all due respect ktipurp, this was a very early in season game for the bruins. it would be like showing the u of p playing tamu game. it really isnt a true indicator of where this team is now.

Re: BEAT UCLA
ktinpurp,
with that i can absolutely agree with you. i have seen too many games where ucla took us out of the tourney. to see them so totally inconsolible would be the best present ever!!

Re: BEAT UCLA
I saw the UCLA-USC match on television this fall. Neither team looked very good. Our midfield should control the ball against UCLA and if our defense can rein in Cheney and Leroux we will win.

Re: BEAT UCLA
Pilots D will need to be at its best as the offensive firepower of the opponent increases. The big VT forward #17 gave Ellie and Megan fits (briefly) in the first half by playing very physically and pushing defenders off the ball. That led to the only VT goal.

Re: BEAT UCLA
There are no easy games at this point int he season. UP will need to play three very good games.
Cheney is 5"10" and Leroux is 5'7". Height up the middle is a danger point for Portland. Megan is tough and determined but she ain't getting any taller in the next 6 days.

Re: BEAT UCLA
With regards to the UNC-UCLA rout earlier this year, UCLA was without their regular keeper for that game, Chante Sandiford.
She is the same keeper who clearly tripped Foxhoven at the beginning of last year. Here's the pic, it's the 3rd last in the slide show - http://www.portlandpilots.com/custompages/gallery/WsoccerUCLA08/
I would love to see the Pilots run up some goals on Sandiford

Ummmm, I hope I never have to be in a line-up with you as the witness...Ashley Thompson was the GK for UCLA, last year, not Chante. Hmmmm, "Oooops, sorry officer."

Re: BEAT UCLA
She walked off the field on her own and was up and running easily down the touchline after getting some treatment. That's a good sign.

Good catch. I saw that their regular keeper wasn't in the UNC game, and assumed it was Chante that played in the UP game last year.

Re: BEAT UCLA
Back to Halley K: as PurplePrideTrumpet said she was up and running befoe the end of the game. She had her ankle taped after coming off the field and looked good to go. She went over to Garrett as if to report that she was ready to play, but she had to sit instead.

I saw the same thing: she looked totallly ready to go back in. I'd be very surprised if she was not 100% this weekend.
