Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
Technically, definitely neutral.
Also, on a holiday weekend at a location an hour? from campus the student section didn't show up (from all I hear). Sounds like the crowd was dead. So, it wasn't a hostile environment or anything. cjacks said it best, a win is a win!!!!

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
I liked the win, we did not wear out the first 8-10 players, CODY GOT IN THE SCOREBOOK.
Being from the midwest originally(I've watched with interest about 5 or 6 of their games over the last year), Minnesota will be tough, but, they played out of their minds against Butler. I think we have a fair shot against them as long as we play good. Their good but not any better than Washington or Gonzaga IMHO.

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
According to ESPN, this was UCLA's largest margin of defeat under Howland and since 2003! Glad we could oblige!

I'd say it was a nice scalp to add to rev's collection, but ben howland doesn't have much hair...

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
The O's early release (LINK):
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Jared Stohl and T.J. Campbell scored 15 points each as Portland clobbered UCLA 74-47 Thursday night in the first round of the 76 Classic.
The Pilots (4-0) will play No. 22 Minnesota in the semifinals Friday.
Portland, coming off a seven-point win over Oregon, never trailed.
Malcolm Lee had 14 points and five rebounds and Drew Gordon 10 points for the Bruins (2-2), who will play No. 12 Butler in a consolation game Friday.
The Pilots knifed through UCLA's defense with ease, scoring off the dribble and making 3-pointers.
Entering the game having made 52.1 percent of their 3-point attempts, the Pilots continued making a barrage of long-distance shots to bury the Bruins. Portland sank 11 of 19 3-pointers and shot 54.2 percent overall.
UCLA shot 32.7 percent and 21.7 percent on 3-pointers. The Bruins converted just 6 of 14 free throws.

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
Come to think of it, the only downer in the game tonight was lack of camera time for the Knutson clan...

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
The part I love is that Nik really didn't have to do too much this game, Robin only had 9 points AND TJ was uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball (with 17 TOs as a team)... And we still won convincingly...
And agreed, the more K family air time the better!

Out-rebounding them 34 -25 wasn't too shabby, either.

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
Well planned and executed game plan as Reveno credited assistant coach's preparation. Now Minnesota, with two 7' trees who move pretty good. Portland's outside game vs. the Gopher's inside presence. Should be a great match up and even Reveno doesn't know exactly what to expect but excited to find out how it matches up and plays out tomorrow night.

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
The last shot of a Portland fan was K man's oldest brother holding K man's niece on his shoulders. Plus, did you see when the players went to the tunnel Mom,Dad, and His other brother ,the Niediemeyers, etc, etc were all standing there in a line giving the players a line of high fives as they exited into the Tunnel.....where was Mesa....having to work on [b]BLACK FRIDAY.. WAHHHH!!!

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
NOW I see why Lavin was going on about how Portland was in the zone...
http://www.sbsun.com/sports/ci_13876742
The 27-point loss was the worst in the Ben Howland era, and 47 points is the lowest offensive output since the Bruins scored 48 against Washington State on Feb. 5, 2004. UCLA hadn't suffered a loss this bad since a 31-point loss to Oregon on March 1, 2003 - Steve Lavin's final season as coach.

Re: Portland vs. UCLA: Gameday!
Wow this is a killer stat
Thank you Andy Katz.
ESPN.com link
Want more? According to ESPN Research, the 27-point loss was tied for the program's worst ever against an unranked nonconference opponent -- in any decade. Only a 1964 loss at Illinois was as bad.
Thank you Andy Katz.
