Fun topic??
Here is maybe an interesting idea, in case you are bored waiting for turkey to get cooked -
If you could clone a Pilot player five times so that there were six of her, and she had to play the attacking and midfield positions for one season, or one game (year in school immaterial), who would you clone? Needed - a combination of speed, scoring ability, passing awareness, defense, whatever else you can think of. Fortunately for UP, there are LOTS who could fill that role. I have my idea - who would you pick?

Michelle E. in a heartbeat. six of her on the attack! Speed, scoring ability, passing awareness, and defense, describes her perfectly.

I have to agree with SP11... 6 Sophies would be unstoppable...

Re: Fun topic??
C'mon Matty - be serious - - - Well, actually, that does sound good.
I agree with bluffer. Among players playing now, I would go with Kendra.
An interesting follow up question - If we had 6 Michelles or Sophies, would our team be better than we are now? Our balance is so good now, with everyone being VERY good at what they specialize in, that I think a case can be made that we would not be as good as we are now, with 6 different players, if we had 6 Michelles or Sophies instead. Definitely NOT true last year, with Meghan, though. Can you imagine 6 Meghans in the attack?

Re: Fun topic??
I agree with Sophie. She is the most versatile player on the team. She has already played attacking mid and forward with distinction; and we know she would be great at holding mid, too. The only reason she's never played there for UP is because of Keelin.
She wins the ball well, she holds it up well, she can score with head or feet, she's not afraid to take a shot from distance.

This is a question where it sounds like the answer should be "Coach Ditka"

Re: Fun topic??
i'm surprised that nobody here said christine sinclair. the qualifications were speed, scoring, passing an defense. ok. so christine didn't play the attacking mid at anytime during her career, but does anyone here think that she couldn't??
speed, check. scoring, enough said. passing, uncanny vision. defense, when she wanted the ball, she got the ball. a very under-rated defender in my opnion. the only qualification left is, could she have played attacking mid? yes, i know, she didn't...but she very easily could have.

Re: Fun topic??
I had in mind the current team (I imagine others did too). Christine would also be my answer if you considered current and former Pilots. I imagine she could have played anywhere - maybe even goalie. I'm pretty sure she has played attacking mid with the Canadians.

Re: Fun topic??
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Jessica. She has shown all the skills that would make an outstanding midfielder or forward. Plus she just doesn't make mistakes, ever. She and her clones could look like Barca.

Re: Fun topic??
An interesting aside is that either of our outside defenders could reasonably be considered for the 6 attacking spots. Very few teams can say that.

Re: Fun topic??
Okay. Your talk of former Pilots and outside backs made me think of Stephanie Cox (nee Lopez). She and her clones would certainly be a tough team to beat. She's got to be one of the best in the Pilot pantheon of great outside backs.

Jessica is a super player but a team of her clones would be awful vulnerable on corner kicks!

Re: Fun topic??
Also, according to the conditions of this hypothetical human cloning project, there would only be 6 of Jess. So Coach could load the remaining players with giants to defend the corner kicks.Harry Redknapp wrote:Jessica is a super player but a team of her clones would be awful vulnerable on corner kicks!

Re: Fun topic??
i started watching soccer when the timbers came an went to many, many games, starting when clive was here. actually, probably before when clive got here. i finally went to a u of p game in tiff's senior season because i had heard sooooo much about her. after watching her, i went back to work an told a very good friend that, as the british would say, she was f@#$&! brilliant!!'
almost ten years later, i reminded my friend how i described tiff when i first saw her an then described christine the same way. over ten years later, my co-worker remembered

I'll take Rapinoe. Two were great, but six would be incredible! The other team would never touch the ball.

I strongly, STRONGLY disagree, PP!!! - The other team would get to touch the ball a LOT, every time they kicked off after the 6 Meghans scored a goal.

Re: Fun topic??
What I like most about Meghan is her mental and physical toughness. There is alot of talk about technical skill which all of the players mentioned in the previous strings have but Megan has that toughness that can't be measured (never give up under any circumstance attitude) . 6 of those would go along way!

Because of her sheer will, skill and charisma, I'll take a 6-pack of Megan Rapinoe.
