USA World Cup Draw
USA is in group C with
England
USA
Algeria
Slovenia
Smiles from the Brits. That group could have drawn France or Portugal.
It's a tough Group, but definitely not the group of death. That looks like it's
Brazil
N. Korea
Ivory Coast
Portugal

Re: USA World Cup Draw
The Ivorians have some VERY talented players.... That group is going to be damn fun to follow, plus the Portuguese are chronic underachievers...
And I love that we get 2 colony vs. mother country matchups in those groups...

So true, so true... I bet the Algerians can't wait to get a crack at their old Slovene opressors.

Touche...
In retrospect it's probably kind of hard for England to NOT play one of their colonies at some point in any given Cup...

You gotta wonder how a little island like that with so few natural resources has managed to ruffle the feathers of so many people... But that's another topic for another forum...

Re: USA World Cup Draw
Is it great to be French, or what? They get in with missed calls, and then they draw So. Africa as the seeded team.

Re: USA World Cup Draw
In the NFL, a winning season ensures a tougher schedule the following year. Italy wins the last WC, and draws Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia? Dolce!
Any bets on a repeat final?

Re: USA World Cup Draw
Mmm...Italy returns a lot of the same guys from 2006, but four years older. They need to suck it up and make some tough decisions about who goes.
And they have an American who decided he wanted to play for Italy instead. So he's dead to me.
I love getting a shot at England, and both the Americans and the English are probably pretty happy with this group. Whoever wins this group gets the Group D runner-up, and that could be any one of the three besides Germany. That group could be pretty interesting. If you finish second in C, though, you get the (Mann)schaft, so there's a huge incentive for both the US and England.

PPT is in a Timbers Army World Cup pool, and that draw was last night, so he's now a Taeguk Warriors fan. With that draw he also suspects he may not recoup his initial investment.Purplegeezer wrote:Group B: Argentina, Nigeria, Korea Republic, Greece

The Timbers just announced the US-England match will be shown on a big screen at Director Park, Park Ave. and Taylor next to Fox Tower. At halftime the club will unveil the 2011 crest.
