Campbell Named WCC Player of the Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- University of Portland senior point guard T.J. Campbell was named the West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Month for November after leading the Pilots to their first national ranking in 50 years and a 5-1 record against top competition. Campbell shared the monthly honor with Saint Mary’s senior center Omar Samhan.

Campbell, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., reached double figures in all six games, despite not attempting more than 10 field goals in any one game. He was twice named the WCC Co-Player of the Week and earned 76 Classic All-Tournament honors after helping the Pilots to the title game with wins over UCLA and then-No. 16 Minnesota. He scored a career-high 23 points against the Gophers. The Pilots lost to No. 8 West Virginia in the championship game.

Campbell shot 59.1 percent from the field, 51.7 percent from the three-point line and 85.4 percent at the foul line. He also helped Portland to wins over Eastern Washington, Seattle and Oregon. Against Seattle, Campbell logged 21 points and a career-best 11 assists.

The Pilots return to the court on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff against the University of Denver (5-2).
