Douglas Named WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- University of Portland freshman point guard Tim Douglas was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week after scoring 27 points in a win over Portland State, the league announced on Monday. Douglas came off the bench to help the Pilots snap a four-game losing streak against the Vikings with a 78-67 win on Saturday. The 27 points were the most scored in a game by Portland freshman since Greg Anthony had 31 against Pepperdine on Jan. 17, 1987.
The 5-10 guard from Cerritos, Calif. came off the bench and immediately dominated against the Vikings. He got to the rim at will in the first half and already had a season-high 16 points by halftime. He finished the game 10-for-13 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line. The 27 points were also a season high for the Pilots.
Douglas has now scored in double figures each of the last three games and upped his season scoring average to 7.2 points. He is also third on the team in assists (21) and steals (11) in just 15.7 minutes per game.
Douglas is the third Pilot to earn player of the week honors this season from the WCC. Luke Sikma was the recipient after the first week of the season and Jared Stohl was honored on Nov. 29. Portland is the only team in the conference with multiple honorees so far this year. Douglas is also the first freshman to earn the honor since Gonzaga’s Elias Harris was recognized on Jan. 18, 2010.
Portland (9-3) will return to the Chiles Center for three consecutive home games over the Holidays, beginning against Boise State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Nevada visits on Monday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. and then Utah comes on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. Tickets are still available through all Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Re: Tim Douglas named WCC Player of the Week
It will be interesting to see how Tim's minutes increase over time if he can maintain this type of play from here. PSU's style of defense is probably suspect, particularly in the area of the basket as he and Derrick bboth were ble to get there without too much trouble.
The PSU game seemed a little wierd with outside shooting so untypical of the Pilots by everyone. and Stoll especially. Bill Johnson was saying that he was getting fairly good looks ?

Congrats! I hope I don't have to read Greg Anthony's name in too many more stories...
