If you're thirsty at the University of Portland, find a drinking fountain. Or bring your own water. As of this month, the campus no longer sells it in plastic bottles.
...
UP says carry all you want, but it will no longer sell water. Drinking fountains and reusable water bottles are its mantra. Officials at the Catholic university feel strongly that access to water is a basic human right and shouldn't be privatized or sold in single-use plastic bottles with present and looming water shortages. Environmental concerns played a role, too: The bottles are a petroleum-based product, they're trucked around and often not recycled.
Lots of UP in the paper today. The feature on Dunbar, the basketball, write-up, and this. I'm all right with it. I refilled my own bottle anyway. It makes more sense than buying a new bottle every time I want water.

I had been looking for the bottled water in the Pilot Club; I don't need any more sugary soda pop or caffeine. They had it last year, but not this year. Guess they tried the ban out on us before making it campus-wide. Finally last night they had a water dispenser, at least at Captain Wally's. The cup was plastic, though. How long until the Green Police remove them? confused

I never understood the concept of buying bottled water when perfectly acceptable tap water was available a few feet away...

This is cool, but I don't think the market for bottled water has nearly the same effect on petroleum consumption as say burning oil in combustion engines.

I drink bottled water all the time. Beer is mostly water, and I am classy so I buy the bottles.
